Westinghouse Wgen9500DF generator; very well-made, exceptional performance, a proper warranty.
This Westinghouse generator is a fine example of how a back-up generator should be designed and built. My use is for a whole house back-up generator that will be semi-permanently installed, ready to go at any time (still doing the install). On gasoline, the generator is rated to start heavy loads of up to 12,500 total Watts (52 Amps at 240 Volts). Or, with just over 100 Amps of 120 Volt starting power available, it can start a collection of 120 Volt devices with motors that can take a little extra time to start under load, such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, compressors, etc. This generator has serious creds and can start/run most household combinations of 120V and 240 V loads. This well-made beauty will last for a very long time. In my opinion, the main reason for its conspicuous strong performance is that Westinghouse has designed-in a very strong 18 HP, 457 CC engine which can readily power typical loads that, on startup, exceeds the continuous rating of 9,500/8,500 Watts (gasoline/propane). A great many generator engines will run out of horsepower during electric motor starts, but not the Wgen9500DF. I've not yet tested the generator with propane because my propane plumbing is not yet complete, but with gasoline the engine has been an exceptionally strong performer. Other reviewers of this genset have expressed no problem with propane, so I expect the same. Compared to my earlier unfortunate choice of a Genmax 7250/6000 Watt (starting/running) with appropriate loads, the Westinghouse 9500DF is far ahead in all aspects, from capability to quality. One obvious example of a significant difference is that the 9500DF is rated to deliver full output at up to 5000 ft of elevation without carb adjustments, which should make it an absolute beast of a generator for starting and running max loads in the areas around sea level. An available high- altitude carb kit enables operation above 5000 ft. Compared with the Wgen9500, the Genmax can deliver its specified output power only when below 2000 ft. A "high altitude" kit is required for anything between 2000 ft. and 4800 feet, it's max altitude. I'm at 4000 ft where the 9500DF has significant reserve horsepower and readily starts and runs heavy loads well within its specifications. The quality of Westinghouse generators is well known and thus are recommended by respected consumer organizations. It only helps that I can easily start the 9500DF at all temps between 24 deg F and 89 deg F, and the remote-start fob works 200+ feet away with a good battery installed. The WGen9500DF dual fuel generator is very unlikely to disappoint, especially with respect to the warranty. The Genmax warranty is only for "substantial defects", and they decide what that means. They require that the purchaser pre-pay round-trip shipping of any generator with a problem to their single US repair location for evaluation and possible warranty repair. My Genmax had a dead display out of the box, but the warranty requires that pre-paid shipping before they would inspect and consider whether or not to repair under warranty. Several phone messages were left at their repair center, but no call-back. Later, after I'd already returned the new Genmax (thank you, Amazon!) and had purchased a Westinghouse generator thru Amazon, Genmax finally called and eventually said that they would provide a free replacement display to me if I would fix the brand-new generator myself. No, thanks. The Westinghouse warranty is simple: If the customer provides for reasonable care and use, parts and labor are fully covered for 1 year, and parts-only for 3 years. There are many, many authorized repair stations, so shipping is typically not required. The only thing that bothered me a little, and this is picky, was that the 9500DF user manual had some mistakes. Someone must have converted another manual and missed 3 or 4 items, such as that, on the cover, the genset is said to be a Digital Inverter Generator (I wish), that it has an ECON switch (nice, if it was true), and a couple other nits. When mentioned to customer service, they thanked me and told me that a revised manual was already in the works. All's well that ends well. If you get one of these fine gensets from Westinghouse, you'll not be disappointed. Westinghouse and Honda set the standard for top-quality generators, but Westinghouse wins the price/value comparisons.

Dual power is awesome!
Easy to put together and get started with right away. I chose this model to use mainly with propane so I do not have to worry about gas getting old/stale, keeping gas in the garage, etc. The remote is awesome - no more pulling the cord, and it worked without any set up.

Great genny, if you need one definitely look at this one.
So far so good. Started right up, runs great. The remote is awesome and the logic to keep trying a restart is even better. Extra bonus of the battery charger that can stay plugged in. This came with everything to get moving, it was the best package I've opened from Amazon in over a decade. The operating manual is something from 20 years ago; all the information you need, good tips and plenty of explanations you just don't get any longer. Seems like a great genny, hopefully the long run will prove me correct.

Great unit, need more instructions for break-in period.
Set up was easy, break-in period documentation is a little unclear as far as how much load vs no load to use during break-in. Unit has plenty of whole house power options for any power outage.

As expected - matched highly rated reviews
Received the Westinghouse WGen9500DF Generator and immediately unboxed and assembled. Although the box had a good-sized tear in the side, the contents of the inside of the box were unharmed. The Amazon delivery people had a hard time getting it out of the truck because unlike other transport providers, whoever loaded up their truck did not place items from rear to front in the order of delivery. Instead my generator was towards the front of the truck so the delivery staff had to spend a good 30 minutes re-arranging the contacts of the truck in order to get access to my generator. The box is extremely heavy so I am surprised the generator is not palletized which could eliminate damage? While unboxing I noticed some of the cardboard and plastic wrap was drenched in oil which was initially concerning. However, once I got the unit out of the box and wiped down things were fine. There are plenty of warnings in the manual and tags on the unit indicating the generator is shipped without engine oil so my worries were unfounded. only some minor scratches on the frame which I can touch-up with spray paint. Other than that the unit looked flawless. Assembly was a breeze and took a whole 10 minutes (install two wheels, two foot pads, add oil which is supplied, and add gas). Looked over the manual and had the unit running within 30 minutes of unboxing. Tested both the push-button start and remote start. Placed the unit under a light load in my garage and seemed to work fine. Pending installing a 50A outlet running from the outside of our home to a manual transfer switch which I have yet to receive and install. Decided to utilize the included battery charger to charge overnight until the LED went from red (Charging) to green (Charged). The unit has a nice fold-down handle which makes wheeling it around very simple, even for my wife. My plan is to store it in the garage, then when we lose power (maybe once or twice a year here in WI), wheel it outside, plug it into the outlet (well inlet really), get it running then manage the transfer switch depending on where we need power. I sized the unit (9500W running on gas) to twice the load we plan to power during an outage. I have done the math (both for peak inrush and running currents) and plan on loading it with a fridge, a freezer, a well pump, garage door opener(s), furnace (for winter outages), and a portable air conditioner unit (for summer if needed), lastly some minimal lighting and outlets for low wattage items if needed. It is not the intent to provide back-up to the entire home since outages here in WI are minimal and last perhaps hours to a day at max, but preparing for future outages due to electrical grid issues? Nice problem to have if our electrical grid remains as reliable as it has, but good to be prepared. I decided (for now) to leave the central A/C out of the backup circuit due to it's power draw, is the reason we will just run a portable A/C in one room to stay cool if needed. Also deciding to lighten the load in case we need to run on propane which reduces the running watts by 1000. Anyway, I like the idea of dual fuel capability as we almost surely have tanks of propane sitting around just in case we run out of gas. The unit appears very well built, high quality materials, everything well laid-out (control panel, gas / oil, etc.) and expect for the 50A plug aligning with a wheel causing the 50A plug needing to be bent slightly, very well designed. I had to minimally bend the 50A cord slightly to get it too fit snugly into the outlet so no big deal for me. Westinghouse also provides clear instructions how to modify the unit for unbonded neutral. I am an industrial engineer and understand neutral to ground bonds so if you don't understand this, do your research and understand consequences of modifying the bind, please consult a licensed electrician. I looked into a Generac whole home automatic generator, and although they are nice, the price-point is easily 10 times more than I spent on the WGen9500DF and items I need for connection to a manual transfer switch (went with the Reliance 510C). So unless you experience outages routinely, don't mind a little manual intervention during an outage, and are not infinitely wealthy, consider this as an option as you can possibly create a backup solution that does not empty your bank account.

Easy Set up. Automatic Start Up. Flawless Operation. Great Value.
It took me about 15 minutes to set up. Super easy assembly!! After adding the oil, they even give you an offset funnel, I attached a propane tank to it, hit the start button and it fired right up!! Ran flawlessly and a lot quieter than expected! I chose to load the electrical side with a portable air compressor. Again, flawless. I highly recommend this generator to any home owner.

This generator is not only extremely powerful and can drive my entire home, but the setup/instructions and user friendliness are exceptional. I was easily able to set it up and have it running in 30 mins with all tools, oil, funnel provided. The remote start is a great bonus here in Ontario where -30C is a certainty at some point this Winter. The build quality is superb - heavy duty materials, vcery tidy assembly and no loose fittings (yes I checked). There are only 2 small comments I would make, and 1 is something the manufacturer cannot really address without a lot of expense. The item is shipped without the the wheels or feet attached for understandable reasons, and the buyer must install them. Doing this is extremely simple and takes just a minute or 2, but the generator must be turned onto it's side to do this, and it is a very heavy piece of equipment. I am a 200lb guy and no stranger to the gym and I had no issues with this, but it is something to be aware of - if you are not able to handle heavy weights, you will need assistance to do this. Secondly, the website I ordered from said that the generator came with a spare spark plug, which it did not. Not a big issue. Overall, I am absolutely delighted with this generator and would not hesitate to recommend it
