Worked great on a prime rib
I put this in a marinade for a prime rib and the flavor came out wonderful. Not much left after the prime rib use, so I'll need to get more try out on steaks and such.

An incredibly good, well-balanced mixture of spices; near the top-of-the-line for spice mixes
Review of: Gustus Vitae - Smoked Prime Cut Seasoning & Rub - Non GMO Verified - Magnetic Tin - 2.5 ouncesThe list of ingredients shown on the product label is deceptively simple; Smoked Salt, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Sugar, Celery Seed Powder, Salt, Black Pepper Ground and Arrowroot Powder. That’s it. With the exception of the Arrowroot powder all the other ingredients are fairly standard.Somehow, though, perhaps because of the proportions of each ingredient and how they combine and enhance the flavors of the other ingredients, this Gustus Vitae Seasoning turns out to be really, really tasty. So far, in my family, we’ve tried the Gustus Vitae seasoning on eggs, popcorn, white rice. We’ve also tried sprinkling the seasoning over chicken and turkey. Burgers, regular hamburger and turkey, are next up on the list to get this seasoning. So far, every single food item this seasoning has been used on has benefited from the seasoning. At times, I even enjoy tasting some of the mixture straight out of the can without even putting on some food; at that’s not something I can say I do with many, if any, other seasoning mixtures. The taste of the salt and the sugar seems, to me, to come through first. Then, the garlic and celery flavors take over center stage. The Black Pepper kicks, and lingers for some time, in as a final reminder that the Gustus Vitae was the brand being used.I do wish that the container held more product, though, as I find I do have to sprinkle the spice mix onto a food quite liberally and that, of course, means that I’ll no doubt go through the 2.5 ounces fairly quickly. And, for such a small amount of product, I did find the price range of the spice mix to be on the high-side.Finally, I found that I quickly became a fan of not only the spice mix but also, as surprising as it is, of the container the spice came in. The tin is magnetic so you can get it off the kitchen counter; it can easily attach to a range hood or a refrigerator or grill or anything metallic. For me, that is a real nice-to-have that makes it convenient to store the container. Also, I found tin itself has both pouring and sprinkling openings around the rim and that also, for me at least, falls into the nice-touch category.All-in-all, for me and for my family, the Gustus Vitae is near the top-of-the-line for spice mixes. If this review was helpful, please click the Helpful button below.

Flavorful rub, small container half empty. Only 2.5 ounces.
This is a really great rub and seasoning. Fragrant when you open the bag, really great on meat. We made a fantastic prime rib with it that came out really great.Unfortunately, it comes in a plastic bag, in a somewhat useless magnetic container, and only contains enough for one or two large pieces of meat when used as a rub making it overpriced. If the container was actually full and had about 5 oz of product it would be a completely different deal. When trying to look at the product description I couldn't find any indication of how much product should have been included except for an answer from the manufacturer indicating 2.1 oz, the one I got was 2.5 oz.I would love to be able to recommend the "Gustus Vitae - Smoked Prime Cut Seasoning & Rub - Non GMO Verified - Magnetic Tin - Authentic Artisanal Gourmet Spice Blend - Crafted in Small Batches" but with the small amount of product it is difficult to say it is worth the price.

Can taste the celery and garlic, not much smoky flavor
This has a very distinct celery aroma and flavor, with the other spices coming in behind. It's not super smoky although smoked salt is the first ingredient. It's not sweet although it does have added sugar which could have been dropped. The sugar doesn't add any flavor to the blend even though I know sugar is added to meat in small amounts as a flavor enhancer like msg. It is peppery in a good way that holds up well next to red meat. It has that cracked pepper warmth and woodiness without being overwhelmingly peppery. Second to the celery seed flavor is the roasted garlic which comes through well. It's salty but not so salty that you don't taste any of the other spices. This blend has both large chunks and fine powder so the two tend to separate, with the powder settling on the bottom of the tin and all the large chunks of dried garlic coming out first. The tin is really nice and keeps the spices airtight, lightproof, and spill-free as long as you close the lid to the closed position. The tin lid rotates to open shaker holes of two different sizes. It also has a magnetic bottom that can stick to any metal surface securely without dumping the spices. There are no junk fillers or flowing agents in this blend, no oil, and no added flavorings or yeast extracts. The only non-spice ingredients are sugar and arrowroot powder which aren't really necessary and could have been skipped.
