I needed a plumber to install this gorgeous toilet.
Very attractive, functioning toilet. Perfect for a small space. I can now enter my shower without stepping over the toilet.Because installation was an ordeal, I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 My brother was going to install this, but a plumber was required. The design of the back of the toilet is broader than normal, so a plumber had to cut into the wall and move the water supply valve away from the toilet. The plumber rejected the wax seal that came with the toilet, and instead installed one he preferred. He said the design of the included wax seal can promote leaks. The plumber said toilets are usually easy to install, but this one was "hard." "Everything is hidden." Just passing on his comments to consumers. The professional plumber spent 2.5 hours here getting the toilet in; I have not received the bill yet. I would still install this toilet because my bathroom is SO tiny. If your bathroom in normal in size, there is no need to buy this and pay extra installation costs.

Moderately painful to install, eventual leak issues due to design around wax ring
Jan 2022 update: 1.5 years after installing this toilet, it started leaking at the base and we ended up having to replace it. While our initial contractor installed the wax ring perfectly, the design of the toilet itself has it so there's nothing in the front section (facing away from the tank) that helps keep half of the wax ring in place. So if there's any movement at all on the toilet or if you have heavier guests, that wax seal is eventually going to separate from the ceramic and cause leaks.I dropped my rating down from 3 to 1 star. For a $500 toilet, it's absolutely inexcusable for it to have this many design flaws. Additionally, the original makers (LuxuryModernHome.com) don't even have a website anymore and are completely non-contactable. So yeah, I really wouldn't take a gamble on this toilet. Just find a reputable brand with small toilets that will have a warranty on the install.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Here's the good:- It definitely makes our small 6'x4' half bath feel MUCH more spacious (combined with the small IKEA vanity/sink). I also like the sleek and square look of it.- I was worried it would feel too small/awkward to sit on, but it feels like a regular old toilet - no complaints from two folks ranging from 5'2 to 5'11/200lbs.- The flush is strong. Other small toilet brands with smaller tanks have complained of weaker flushes, but no issue with that here at all.The medium:- Our plumber did not have a fun time installing this toilet. I'm very glad we paid someone to do this because he had to take the toilet off at least 3 times / went through 2 wax rings. I think at least one time some valves weren't tightened that should normally come tightened by toilet makers.- The shape and tightness of the toilet, while definitely a feature, may not work out of the box with the location of your water supply valve. Our contractor had to move ours a few inches to the left, since the previously larger toilet naturally had more clearance/space in the back than this one.- Potentially awkward install with bidets. The toilet attaches with a non-standard 1/2" toilet connector unlike almost all other American toilets (7/8"), which made us get a little creative when installing a bidet alongside the toilet (although to be fair, part of that was the fault of the bidet which also came with a super bizarre connector size, so your mileage may vary here). The bad (primarily tank/lid related):- The two rods that control/extend the flush buttons being pressed (into the controls inside the tank) were too long, so that whenever the toilet lid was on, the toilet was constantly flushing if the lid was on. We had to manually shorten/cut off the ends of the rods. No idea if this was standard or how it passed QA, because... this toilet doesn't come with a manual.- The floater that controls when the water stops filling the tank *never stopped filling the tank* when the tank lid was on, because the lip of the lid literally came down ON TOP the floater and PRESSED IT DOWNWARDS. We had to bend the plastic arm and McGuyver it with some really janky wire shenanigans just to get it low enough that the tank lid wouldn't interfere with the flush operation. One time we got it too low so that the floater wasn't actually dropping by itself, that was a fun experience.- This toilet really should come with a manual. If the $20 electric fly swatter I bought on Amazon comes with a manual, I feel like a $500+ toilet can afford to come with one.In the end, this looks great and works fine after a fair amount of installation frustration. If I could do this all over again, I'd probably go with the more widely tested/reviewed 24" GALBA. The CARUS is still apparently a bit young and has a few kinks to work out particularly with the tank/tank lid. Time will tell how the toilet holds up - will update the review if something else dies over time. If not, assume all is well.Update: It clogged once in the first week or so but hasn't again after a month of use. Maybe just a one-off thing.

almost a hit, but one basic flaw
In most respects, the toilet is well made. However, there is a critical design flaw. The vertical float cannot rise far enough to shut off the flow of water, when the lid is on it. The tank lid has a protruding lip all around for a snug fit when positioned on the tank. That lip pushes the float down, so that water runs continuously. Most vertical floats can be adjusted, but the one installed on this toilet does not appear to have any method for adjustment. And no instructions were provided that might clue us into some method. Neither me nor an experienced plumber could figure it out.If I had paid $150 for the toilet, I would have written it off as you get what you pay for. But a toilet coming in at over $500 is trying to compete with plumbing supply stores carrying Kohler, American Standard, Toto, etc.We are very disappointed. Our temporary solution was to install some small rubber feet for electronic equipment to raise the lid up high enough so the float is not pushed down, but that looks silly, as there is a visible gap between the tank and the lid. When I muster up the patience to deal with a permanent solution, we will probably chisel out part of the lip on the tank lid with stone carving tools, but we might also consider just grinding part of the lip down.Very disappointed, primarily due to the cost. I probably would have given three stars even with the flaw, if the toilet was only $150, because I would have had much less invested. As both a designer and an engineer, I don't understand how this gets through basic QA testing.

Perfect little toilet for small bathrooms
This was the perfect fit for our bathroom. We remodeled the room and wanted a walk in tile shower but the standard toilets were to big and would have interfered with the door, unless we really went custom and had a door to small. I searched around and found this little guy that was about 3” smaller that a standard toilet and it was perfect for our room. It allowed us to buy standard showers doors as well. It’s a little pricy but I have no complaints. It fit perfect into a 12” rough in and flushes like a dream. I was skeptical when I ordered it because of the price but I have no regrets. Pay a little more but I would do it again. My wife wants another one this style when we do our next bathroom. Even though I won’t need a smaller unit, she loves the smooth walls and design because it’s so much easier to clean.

Best customer service
My husband and I installed this toilet together. A little more challenging than other but not horrible. The customer service is excellent. I contacted them a year after purchasing and they answered all questions, sent directions and even followed up via Amazon and a phone call. Worth buying just to work with a company that will respond when you need it
