I use this to sharpen chisels, plane blades and knives. High carbon steel rusts easily. All these blades, aforementioned, are made of high carbon steel. This has some ingredient that makes it more difficult for steel to rust in water. I wet my sharpening stones with water to lubricate the stone. I could use oil, but water is just as good, if not better, and much cheaper and not messy like oil. It doesn't stain my clothes. This stuff is expensive, but if you like to keep your tools sharp this stuff is the ticket.
