Hamilton Beach 25478 Breakfast Sandwich Maker with Timer, Silver

I have wanted one of these for over a year, however I am Diabetic and I try to avoid eating unnecessary carbs. The idea of breakfast being made while I take care of other things and people in the morning was spectacular, but I thought everything needed a bun, or waffle, or something to hold the sandwich together. So I decided not to get one. My wife knew I wanted one and bought it for me for my birthday and I am glad she did. So for starters, It does make a great, thoroughly cooked breakfast sandwich. Eggs are cooked to an "over medium" consistency at the standard 5 minute timer as a sandwich. I have tried this with English Muffins, Frozen Pancakes (Walmart has a frozen bag of them from De wafelbakkers that are the perfect size), Waffles, Grands Biscuit dough, and Pillsbury croissants. The Raw dough items I did semi pre cook them in the unit without egg or meat. All of the above worked great but, again, Carbs... Seeing how I typically eat 2 over medium eggs in the morning on my griddle I figured, well this thing makes one great egg, what if I used the lower portion for another egg. So, I put an egg in the bottom, and one in the top, seasoned them, added cheese and set the timer for 4 minutes. Went off, took care of the kids and such, came back when it summoned me and viola! 2 perfectly cooked, round eggs. I had to lift the bottom ring, Remove the lower egg, then close the unit, slide the upper tray bottom out (so the egg will fall to the bottom) and then lift the bottom ring and remove the 2nd egg. The fact I can turn this on, Let it heat up (takes like 3 minutes), crack 2 eggs in it, toss some cheese, set the timer and walk away is really a fantastic thing for my mornings. Being able to make eggs how I want and need them to be without getting the griddle going or babysitting them is great. My Only tip is this: Nonstick coatings on this are Fantastic. They are dishwasher safe BUT the manual says to hand wash for best results. My experience with non stick is that dishwashers really reduce the usable life of the coating. These rings take seconds to rinse with hot water or use a baby bottle brush and a little soap. The unit itself I just wipe with a clean cloth. Also, Nonstick cooking spray makes the whole thing just work easier, but if you don't like Nonstick spray, get a Misto and use your favorite oil, or if you really like real butter, you can use that too.

This is a clever yet simple small electrical Appliance. It is so easy to use that it's almost like you want to make it more complicated in your mind but it's really simple and a,brilliant design. I'm permanently physically disabled I do walk but I can't stand for more than 3 or 5 minutes at a time so my breakfast has to be fast and easy but healthy. This sandwich maker is absolutely just what I needed. 4 minutes - that's it. No fry pan to clean up and all that nonsense. It has a nonstick coating on all inside surfaces so you just literally when it cools down pull up pull up the griddle which are attached by a hinge and honestly, takes tall of 10 seconds to clean. I think the most ingenious part is that sliding motion after you're done you take that little protruding handle from the right and slide it all the opposite side and the sandwich comes out whole when you lift up the top and there it is. I wouldn't hesitate . For some reason mine takes only 4 minutes; at 5 minutes my English gets a bit burned. I cannot wait to try it with a bagel. I'm already thinking of creating a little English muffin pizza with mozzarella cheese on it and a tiny bit of sauce and seasoning.

My daughter has been using one of these for about a year and I recently purchased one of my own. It's a nice kitchen gadget that does a good job. I'm always looking for something quick and easy for breakfast and if I'm in a hurry I'll grab a protein bar or make some toast. I'm now able to make a pretty tasty and nutritional breakfast in just over five minutes. It takes a minute or two for it to warm up and I set the timer for five minutes and it's done. My typical breakfast with this sandwich maker is a whole wheat English muffin, either Canadian bacon or sausage patty, a piece of cheese, and an egg. The egg is always cooked to perfection (not runny) and I'm able to eat it in my car if necessary. I do have two complaints. First is the "beep". It will beep when it's ready to go, i.e., when the green light goes on, and it will beep when the timer gets to zero. However, you have to be standing so close to it in order to hear the beep you can just see the light or timer. Not a big deal but it would be nice if the beep was louder. My second complaint is that the sandwich maker doesn't shut off when the timer reaches zero; you have to unplug it since there isn't an on/off switch. Since the sandwich is pretty hot when it's done I'd be OK with leaving it in the maker for a few minutes while I did something else to let it cool down but you have to hover over the maker so you can pull the plug. I'd happily pay a few dollars more for that feature on this maker.

Amazon's AI knows me a little too well. Somehow this came up one day. Normally I agree with Alton Brown's rule that kitchen tools should serve more than one purpose but in this case I am happy to make an exception. I am always in a hurry but I love breakfast and really NEED it to get off to a good start. Gotta keep that blood sugar stable., y'all. With this, I can pop the bread in, meat, cheese, egg, hit the timer, walk away and pack my bag or put on shoes or something. Then BEEP I have food ready. Between this and my French press, I am ALL SET in the AM. Long story short: it works, it makes a lovely sammy, my tummy is happy. Easy to use, easy to clean. Doesn't take up much space. Worth the small investment. Healthier and cheaper than ordering something on the way to work.

Ok, how can i say it!? I LOVE IT! Not looking forward to the peeling but lets be honest here, for $24 it's an awesome gadget! I read about the dripping of the egg. My opinion is this, if you do not preheated the muffin maker the machine is expected to drip. We all know metal expands when heated. This will assure you a good seal. If they were to make it tight when cold at the factory it probably wouldn't slide with ease once preheated. I wouldn't work well. So, if we preheat for 4 minutes, we won't run into any problems. Also, do not place hot muffin maker removable parts in the sink or in water when hot. This could can cause it to warp. Then the egg will drip even when preheating it and it won't work as it should. It can also cause the nonstick coating to peel faster. Now, buying sausage, hamburgers or any small size patties at you local store will work wonderfully. What i did was place the frozen patty on the bottom level of the machine and close it while it's preheating, then, flip the patty for another minute. Once done place the patty on the lower bun, wipe the bottom level of the machine with a paper towel, place the bottom muffin with the meat patty you precooked while preheating on top of the bottom muffin, place the cheese with the corners bent in so you wont make a mess, place the next hot level (plate), then your egg pricked. Then top muffin and it should come out AMAZING. I was thinking to use the small frozen pancakes they sell in a bag for some Mic-griddles (i know - for post approval purposes only) The machine will pay for itself in just a few uses. The breakfast sandwich will come to about $1- $1.25 to make depending what you're putting in it. Not bad compare to $4- $5 at your favorite fast food place. Plus you know whats in it and where its been. Not bad at all. Hope this helps. :)

My husband loves this. But it is a huge mess to use. The egg yolk drips all over. There are crumbs all over the counter, it would have been better if it would have been on some type of base or crumb catcher. It has a timer but does not shut off when the timer goes off, it just notifies you to unplug it so you can’t set it up and get ready for work because if you don’t unplug it your food will burn. Good idea but could have been designed better.

For someone like me who can barely function first thing in the morning, this thing is awesome! I struggle waking up in the morning, and making breakfast is the last thing I want to do, but this makes it easy to have a breakfast sandwich every morning without the cost of stopping to buy one along the way to work. It's simple to use and clean. A lot of reviewers seem to have problem with the egg creating a mess, but I haven't had that issue. I plug it in and let it preheat, then put the bottom half of my english muffin in first, put a piece of cheese on top of that and precooked ham/sausage, then I put the egg lid down, pour in my egg, and put the top of the muffin on that. I find that setting it to cook for 5 minutes works perfect. When I slide the plate over that the egg cooks on, there's no mess at all and I have a perfect breakfast for very little effort. By the time I'm done eating, it's cooled down enough to rinse off. WARNING: make sure to wear an oven mitt when sliding the egg plate over and removing the sandwich, as the little handle is extremely hot and will burn you.

I love this breakfast sandwich maker! I often send my husband out to grab a breakfast sandwich or burrito, but nothing beats the convenience of making them at home and being able to vary the ingredients to your own tastes. For example, English muffins fit perfectly into the sandwich maker, but I love sourdough bread. I took a great big slice of sourdough bread and cut two circles of bread which fit perfectly into the sandwich maker. I buttered it lightly and it came out perfect! I've used Canadian bacon and my favorite, pre-cooked bacon, as my meat. I've added avocado and tomato and those sandwiches were perfect, too. Eggs are such a great source of protein to start your morning and they really keep me from getting hunger pangs for the rest of the day! One thing I regret......I didn't buy the double breakfast sandwich maker. My husband is often gone to work by the time I eat breakfast, so I thought the single would be fine. But he loves these sandwiches, too. Summer is coming up and his schedule is more flexible, so he'll be home more often for breakfast.....Oh, well. It's pretty easy to make two sandwichs; they only take 4 minutes to make!

I didn't know such a small sandwish maker was so convinient, is just perfect for small kitchens and great breakfast (Baggel, ham, chees & eggs) all ready in 5 mins, highly recommended

I use this machine for my kids’ breakfasts before school. Sometimes if I feel particularly tired or stressed, I make these the night before, wrap them and keep them in the fridge and quickly microwave them in the morning. My daughter drives herself and my son to school and before getting this machine, she would often go to Tim Hortons to buy a breakfast sandwich. She wouldn’t refuse any other breakfast at home but on the drive to school she wouldn’t refuse any be enticed by a breakfast sandwich on the way. This was money she didn’t need to spend then but especially now that we can make essentially the exact same sandwich at home now. My son is also very picky at breakfast time but can never say no to a sausage egg muffin so this machine has been particularly invaluable for him. Of course we could have made these sandwiches in a frying pan and toaster for them before but with chronic pain, chronic fatigue and orthostatic intolerance, it is near impossible for me to stand up for mire than a minute or two at a stove before I feel faint and dizzy. Now I can assemble the layers and sit down while everything is cooking. It really helps me a lot. Everything I do has to be measured, and planned so I don’t aggravate pain or pass out. Little things like this machine is hugely helpful and allows my kids to eat something they enjoy without being stressful to my body. My being upright and staying that way can change in 30 seconds. Being able to do something quickly and sit in between tasks is essential. It allows me to feel and be that little more productive and that is beneficial for anyone and everyone.

It can be a good egg muffin cooker but NOT a sandwich or bagel Maker due to the fact that bagels are too thick and the eggs will leak out everywhere (as I found out) and the top will be a bit burned due to touching the heating plate. However, it is nice with the muffin. If you want an egg muffin that is exactly like from the big M store, don't follow the instruction video from HB. If you cook it the way like the video instructs, then your muffin (top part) will become a bit soggy in the middle. What you do is to put everything in As per the video EXCEPT the top part of the muffin. Then you set the timer for 5 minutes, open up the grill and put the top part of the muffin in when there are 2 minutes left to cook, then you will have an egg muffin (eggs separated and not stuck to the muffin) that looks and tastes like from the big M store.

We love this machine. It is easy to use, easy to clean and makes a great filling breakfast. I use it at least once a week. When I first got the machine I burned the top of the sandwich. I quickly realized that if I cooked it without the top piece of bread (english muffin), and just put it on for the last minute, then it cooked perfectly. Definitely a great purchase!
