Great for shaping Bondo and foam!
Easy to change blades, and easy to change the direction of cut. This works great on mostly cured Bondo, forming styrofoam insulation (the good extruded kind, not the flaky "balls stuck together" kind) and with a sharp blade even forms fully cured Bondo reasonably well. Look for the mini 21-115 for curved surfaces, the smaller 21-399 for medium sized objects and the other 10" large one 21-295 for flattening and countouring larger items. I wish I'd found these a month ago when I was building fender flares for my van!

Made planing a little off a sticking door easy.
After trying to plane a little off a sticking door with a mini plane, got one of these and knocked it out in a couple of minutes. Good price, fast delivery, good packaging, great procduct. Thanks.

The jury is still out on this tools quality and engineering.
The jury is still out on this tool. Yes the handle is poorly engineered, only held in place by a single screw into a plastic base; yet I have had not trouble with it shearing off or breaking. I guess I am not gorilla torquing it. I am surprised with the low quality of materials and unsophisticated engineering expressed in a high-end tool make like Stanley! Maybe they’ll get the hint that this tool needs some tweaking. Other wise it has performed well to shape the Styrofoam landscaping on my model railroad project

Surform
I picked this item because I had one similar to this a long time ago and it was great. I use these surforms quite often as I am always doing woodworking. I used a handle that screwed into the side of an old drill and put it on the end of my surform. This gave me a more stability. They are quite the handy item. I recommend this item to anyone that does woodworking. I gave it this rating because I like it. Thanks. John

Garbage
Stanley has become synonymous with junk. I should kick myself for buying this as I have other Stanley tools that have failed like screwdrivers where the blade spins inside the handle and a hack saw that won't hold a blade under pressure. The blade broke on the first pass with this plane and then it broke again when I drilled a hole in it to try to repair it myself. Not worth the hassle of return. Buy better.

Not a master tool but serves it's purpose!
Sometimes you don't need the master tool just to knock a little wood off for a good fit. Works well enough on end grain (sometimes a rasp is better there) but works really well with the grain, especially in tight spots when a singly blade planer won't do. Easier for fine controlled removal than a chisel also!

A good substitute for a real plane
Used this to shape down some rough wood instead of using a regular plane. At first I thought it was blunt, but after leaning harder on the handles, I got it to cut nicely. Price was good, just lost a star because of the effort required for use

Good for many purposes
For removing drops paint from a drywall for example etc

Frankly I'm fond of Stanley's fine files.
Works great if you brace what you are planing. Perfect for a start before sanding to get a surface flat or even shaping over longer areas. Just be careful, the blades are fragile and not too fond of being overtightened. If bent, they are easy to have snap when you try to bend it back. At least replacement blades don't cost too much.
