The Morrigan: Celtic Goddess of Magick and Might

Fantastic freaking book! I’m so glad I have this on my shelf and it’s become a go to book whenever I just need something to read. I bought another one of her books this was so good. Inside is a blend of history and praise. Those looking into old Irish legends would like this just as much as the neighborhood witch. Aspects of Morrigan in her various roles in culture are explored without becoming confusing. The author makes allowances for information lost to time. Marvelous read for anyone interested in boss babes, Celtic history and a must buy for a Morrigan follower.

I love that she references one of my fave author Morgan Daimler for the myths in her book. Granted this book is different than those Ms.Daimler wrote in the respect that several people have allowed her to share their stories and art about The Great Queen as well as her own. She discusses that aspects associated with her like, prophecy, death, war, faery, sovereignty, shape-shifting, healer and why and how could be. Her spells are ones I never thought of and (she is like a great yoga teacher) gives you many options depending on your situation. As well as explaining why some things are not safe and why. I love the ease to go back to the notes for each notation and sometimes there would be personal antidotes as well as the book. This would be the fourth book I have read about The Morrigan and I am impressed and will have to re-read again later or use as reference when I pick up the other books she used as reference in the book. ;-) Thank you for affirming some of the ideas I had about my journey with The Morrigan as well as calming some fears of am I imagining it.

Phenomenal and informative

This book is amazing!! It is the perfect first book to get on the Morrigan. The author has a conversational style of writing that made this very easy to read, especially for me because I have a learning disability that makes concentrating on long passages difficult especially if they sound anything like a text book. But that is not the case here. The way it is written feels very easy to read, and the sections are short with enough info to make me feel like I "got it".

I don't know if The Morrigan is here specifically recommending this author, but I do know this book was a sign to start my spiritual journey. Amazing combination of personal anecdotes mixed with accredited history. The author gave incredible insight into the Great Queen's various aspects and myths. Absolutely my favorite book I've bought regarding this subject, bar none. I wish I could read it again for the first time. I'll be purchasing the Brigid book as well, soon!

I've been a fan of Courtney's since her first book, Bridgid: History, Mystery, and Magick. And she's done it again. Evocative and inspiring, Courtney's voice in her writing makes you feel as if you're on the journey with her. Her pain, her joys, her confusion - all of it is relatable, and that The Morrigan might not to so far out of reach. Her scholarship is excellent, (thank goodness they let her have footnotes in this one!), so that you can do your own research after you finish. Courtney blends academic study, personal gnosis, and actionable magick with personal exercises that allow you to both develop and deepen your relationship with The Great Queen. I cannot speak for those who already have a relationship with Her, but for those of us who may be hearing the beginning caws of Her crows - Courtney's book is an encouraging place to begin your journey.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about this book. I learned about more stories I hadn’t come across in my own research and so much about The Morrígan and the entities that make her. Many stories I was reading with the biggest smirk on my face because any of us devotees to The Morrígan know exactly how bad ass she truly is, so her mythology stories are incredible. Especially as a women in this patriarchal world I love hearing the stories where she was so brave and badass against men trying to bring down, belittle, or harm her. I’ve also read another book of The Morrígan by a different author and I’ve not connected with it nearly as much as I did this book. This book to me is accurate with everything and always explains where there’s gray area we don’t know 100% about the Morrígan. It’s just an incredibly book and amazing read I wish I could recommend it some more!!! I’m going to read it again a second time through and I just finished it recently 🫢

Weber has a problem in her writing where she starts a book strong with references to primary sources and speaks authoritatively from them, but then by the end every sentence contains "may" or "might have." The authoritative tone carries forward to wild speculation, corrupting what is otherwise a well considered introduction. Much of the book is wild speculation told through the lense if modern Wicca, itself a total fabrication of the 1960s spirituality boom. She forces The Morrigan through this lense and subsequently misses her essence entirely, projecting these Wiccan ideas onto her. I don't regret buying it, but don't treat it as any kind of authority on The Morrigan.
