Q: can you snap the cover on or does it have to be slid on from one end?

They're designed to be slid in, but one of above-average dexterity would probably be able to pop them in at one end and work it the rest of the way.

Q: I'm wondering if this would work along the top of a wall between the wall and ceiling?

Yes I put it the corner of the room under the tv that’s mounted up on the wall.

Q: How do you remove these without destroying the wall?

I did not use the adhesive that came with it. I bought the Velcro command strips to put on it.
