My go to cleaner for hard water scale!
I live in a city with very hard water. I spent almost a decade here wiping things down and fighting against mineral buildup without finding anything that easily removed the problem. Our house is built in such a way that we just can't put a water softener in because there is no place to put a drain line. Unfortunately it seems that we're just stuck fighting the buildup. Then one day I stumbled across the knowledge that citric acid loves to eat away at the mineral buildup from hard water. This stuff has been a miracle worker! I've removed so many years of mineral buildup all over our house! The faucets in the bathrooms look like new! I clean out my tea kettle every few weeks with this stuff! My favorite use for this is in the dishwasher. I add about 1 - 2 teaspoons just tossed straight in to the bottom of the dishwasher before I turn it on. The first wash after we did this the first time was so amazing! I couldn't believe how clean my dishes looked. After the first week of trying this out it was almost like we'd replaced all of our dishware. Years of buildup that had also caused other stains was gone. I drink big glasses of iced tea every day and my tumblers were starting to get a tea colored tint on the inside. Thanks to the hard water scale being removed, the stain that was attached to it disappeared too and all of my tumblers looked like I'd just bought them! My mom was so impressed by how clean our dishes looked that she bought a bag of citric acid and now tosses some in with every dishwasher load too! It is SO quick and easy to use as a cleaner. It is activated with just hot water. I put hot water in a container, pour some citric acid in and either drop things into the container to soak, or hold the container under things so that they can be submerged like the faucet head in my bathrooms. Some spots need a little more creativity. I sprinkle granules around the handles of the faucets in the bathroom where drips from wet hands like to cause buildup over time and then drizzle tiny amounts of hot water over it. It works so quickly, usually within 3 - 5 minutes, then I use a sponge to try to rub it in to tough build up a bit and then rinse it all away, that's it! I put some in my hot kettle right after I've made my morning tea with a little extra hot water in the pot. It literally takes 30 seconds to remove all the scale from the bottom of the pot, and then it's clean as new. I do this every 2 - 4 weeks and today my 2 year old kettle still looks new which is a miracle with the hard water here. I know that there are a lot of uses for citric acid, but I only use mine as a cleaner for hard water scale and i can't say enough good about it. It has been the miracle that my house needed when other options for removing scale have failed. It's cheap, easy to use, not a harsh chemical like so many other cleaning products, I so highly recommend this if you're struggling with hard water buildup!

That this is a very economical way to get your dishes to shine in hard water.
Once I realized that the very expensive dishwasher additive that let's my dishes shine was simply Citric Acid I started buying in bulk! This is a great product and is food grade so I feel safe using it in my dishwasher, it also is significant in reducing the problems that I have with hard water.

Worked Great
Bought this to clean rust and calcium out of toilet tanks. Worked great. As it's food grade I can also use it for canning and a couple of other things. I find the non-gmo claim kind of pointless... It's a chemical (C6-H8-O7). Whether it came from gmo lemons or not changes nothing.

I like white powders espcially ones that can be eaten ;)
Item arrived as described and without damage! Other reviewers said that theirs arrived damaged due to poor packaging (it was just the plastic bag holding 5lb of powder bouncing around inside a cardboard box) -- BUT -- mine was put into a box with other items that I had ordered, which also included plastic air bags, so the additional cushioning from my other items and the plastic pillows allowed the container to maintain its integrity: no broken bag = no scattered powder! Pros: 1) Food Grade: can be added to your food or when you make wine or even just water for that citrus-y tang 2) Can be used (sparingly!) to remove calcium buildup (limescale) in your dishwasher, clothes washing machine, kettle or what-have-you that houses water at some point during its use, in lieu of commercial products that contain non-edible chemicals (sometimes I use vinegar too) 3) Five-pound bag: lasts a long, long time. Shouldn't expire? Bugs or bacteria won't go near it; it might lose its potency if exposed to air for prolonged periods of time, but still: what a bargain!

Good for descaling k-cup and coffee machines.
I prefer using this to descale my appliances instead of vinegar. I have used it to remove calcium build up and it works nice. I had no idea but read about it when I was descaling my K-Cup machine and someone said they liked Citric Acid better - and they were right, I think.
