A nice, sturdy vise for the price
Vise is very sturdy. Action is tight and jaws don't deflect when something long is clamped over at one side. It's a little crudely made compared to US manufactured Wilton vises (lead screw flops around inside moveable jaw even when jaws are tightened), but those cost several multiples of imported models.

Well made vice
Got this vice to replace a smaller one in my garage workshop. When it arrived, I thought it would be too big & heavy but after installation it works well in the limited space I have. Don't fasten it to a flimsy or cheap homeowner's bench. It needs a solid, substantial work surface & heavy bolts to be safe. I took mine apart for cleaning and lubing with wheel bearing grease, which smoothed things out. Now it feels very precise and strong. A great vice & good value.

Great quality for the money!
Like most others who have researched this vise, I looked at different brands and decided to go with the Wilton 744 4" vise. Its robust construction will withstand more than what I'll ever subject it to. I've already used it to work on various components in cars, trucks, and firearms. You'll notice some people complaining about packaging. I must've lucked out in that the vise arrived without any noticeable cosmetic damage. You'll have to spend a little bit of time cleaning the storage/packing grease off of the exterior surfaces. All in all, I can foresee this vise lasting generations of use with a little bit of care.

Nice and solid
Nice and solid. Looks good with nice strong coating. Feels like it'll last a lifetime and then some no problem. Definitely like the sealed spindle. Still made in china but wasn't ready to spend $5-600 on the usa made model, maybe next time.

Better than most, but still made in China
I was looking for a solid, American-made vise and went with Wilton. It's American-spec, but made in China. While the paperwork says only a 2-year guarantee, according to the manufacturer's website (below), it's still a lifetime limited warranty. It appears that only the 1765 is American-made.Product Link: [...]

Disappointed by the low quality at such a high price
Disappointment is the word how I feel. I don't know why I thought that because its a Wilton, it'll be much better than my current 60 years old shabby vice. Maybe because Wilton website is perfect, therefore you think, the products are perfect. I expected it to make me feel good. Nope.Hence, if you're considering this 21300 744 model, my advice No1 is to NOT have your hopes too high. The jaws will not meet parallel; one jaw will be higher than the other, on one side, but not on the other; there will be debris inside, in all joints and threads; and no grease on main screw; and scratches. My advice No2 is to re-consider buying a new vice or at least this vice. If I knew what low quality I would get, I would not buy it. I would just clean up and re-paint the old vice for $20 and be much happier. So unless your old vice cracked and fell apart, don't buy a new one.Advice No3 - revise your requirements for a new vice, don't look for 4 mounting points or for double-lockdowns or for something what you can't get. Because for Canadians, very little choice is made available, and what is available, like this 744 vice, is only sold by a single supplier and at 3 times the price. If by now, you haven't changed your mind, read my comments again - you will save yourself from huge disappointment. All in all I do not recommend this vice.New edit: forgot to mention, the jaw opening is NOT 4 1/2" as stated in the specs, but in actuality, the practical opening is 4" as the main screw disengages at 4 1/8". For me, not a big deal, but for someone else, could be a big surprise.New edit #2: discovered another surprise - mounting holes are of smaller diameter. In the specs, mounting hole is 9/16" and recommended bolt diameter 1/2". However, don't rush to buy 1/2", because it won't fit. The vice that I just received, has actual hole diameter 0.488", hence, 1/2 (0.5) inch bolt will be too big. Product dimensions can change without notice, and the drawings become outdated. I recommend you wait to receive the vice, then measure the actual hole, and then buy the bolt that fits the hole and not the drawings.
