If you were thinking of impregnating leather with this stuff for stropping, I honestly couldn't say if that would or wouldn't work. Have you considered Tormek paste for that kind of application? I have used that with leather for stropping. Turns the leather pink, but it works. **Q: Is this metal grinding compound "water" based?** A: No it is not. The product is grease based. **Q: Can this work for Reel Mower blades? Can you just put it on the blades and push the mower, to sharpen it?** A: Yes will work on push mowers. A little bit truly goes a long way — the amount in each tube was more than enough for the LS valves I lapped on a set of cylinder heads I rebuilt. I really appreciate that the kit includes both coarse and fine grit compounds. The coarse grit quickly cleaned up and reshaped the valve surfaces, while the fine grit gave me a smooth, mirror-like finish.After using both grits in sequence, the valve seats mated perfectly and sealed up airtight. The results were excellent — professional quality right in my own garage. If you’re rebuilding heads or doing valve work, this compound is absolutely worth having on hand.
