Cardinal Dolan is a brilliant theologian who speaks well, in understandable terms, making his message accessible to people of many different backgrounds and education levels. He also communicates well with the media, and I have been particularly impressed with his appearances on programs like Meet the Press. He is often mentioned as having the potential to be a future pope, and I can certainly see why. He has an enormous zeal and commitment to the faith, and a truly sincere and joyful personality. The cardinal is young enough that he could, in fact, be elected at the next conclave. If he is, the world will be all the better for it. I hope he will be willing to embrace and encourage the traditional Catholic renewal, including the growing use of Latin and classical music in the mass. The prose is very conversational, and by the end I felt like I knew His Eminence personally. The first two-thirds are an overview of essential virtues to grow in, and served as a good guide and reminder for my personal pursuit of holiness. The last third goes over the essential aspects of the priestly vocation and priestly ministry. The entire book is full of great stories that help to illustrate the ideas that His Eminence discusses.
