I suffer from IBS-CIC and have been prescribed medication for this condition for over a year, but have had symptoms for several years. I changed insurance and my medication was no longer covered - to the tune of almost $1k a month! I am a female and also hope to get pregnant in the future and this past prescription was not safe for pregnant women - so I decided to try something new. I read that magnesium was safe for pregnant women so I decided to give it a try. First off, I only took this medication to help with my stomach/bowel movements. And it works! Even better than the prescription! The prescription was a bit harsh - would cause cramping and even occasional diarrhea (sorry for TMI - I just hope this review helps others in my position!)…not to mention, I wasn't completely comfortable with its lack of safety. After taking a high dose of this Magnesium Citrate however, I feel like a normal person again! It's completely gentle! The first day I took it, I could feel my tummy "rumble" a bit when the medicine kicked in, but now it is totally smooth sailing. Let me also say that I have tried EVERYTHING - Milk of Magnesia; complete change of diet - no dairy, no gluten, high fiber - EVERYTHING; enemas; harsh laxatives; all natural laxatives -- literally everything. Second, I did not expect to get any other benefits from this medicine - but I got them anyway! I've always suffered from twitching in my eye which drives me crazy. Review: Magnesium - one of the most important and undervalued minerals - After taking magnesium for a couple of months, I've come to the conclusion that magnesium is one of the most underrated and important minerals that is lacking in our diets. It has had a profound effect on my health on multiple levels. I originally learned about the importance of magnesium from a health program I heard on the radio. My job I had at the time was fairly physical and had me walking great distances from day to day. As a result, I was in fairly decent physical shape; however, I would often wake up in the morning with horrendous charlie horses -- the type that would cramp up so bad that I would sometimes yell out in pain. After learning the info about magnesium on the radio, I ordered a bottle and started taking the tablets (this was before Superior Labs capsules). This cleared up, or at least softened, the charlie horses. The tablets were probably not the most effective as they most likely contained much of the magnesium form magnesium oxide, which in my experience is very inefficient -- but at least it had me on the right track. Fast forward about a decade. I had quit the job that had me walking miles a day and thus stopped taking magnesium supplements. But after I started playing recreational sports and doing weight bearing exercises, the muscle cramps came back. Not necessarily charlie horses, but any muscle that had gone through vigorous use. Also, my joints (particularly the knees) were always very sore after intense exercise. When I would get home from playing sports, I would be limping up the stairs to go to the shower.
