I liked the style of use and shavings I got.
Dang Japan, loving both cuts and pull techniques on woodworking tools. Wasn't sure with all the stickers on the plane out of the package. But the shavings and glossy surface show me this was worth the investment.

Very happy!
This is my fourth Japanese style plane and I am very happy with it. My main purpose for this plane is to help smooth some maple I have been milling from some cut trees. The plane only needed some basic setup out of the box. After setting the blade depth, the plane performed well. I was impressed with the shavings out of the box. I will be tuning up the plane by honing the blade and checking the flatness of the bottom. Overall, I am very satisfied and have no negative points to share.

Better than I expected
Before you buy a Japanese plane you'd better understand what you get into. Japanese planes need substantial knowledge and effort to set up, they won't perform well without proper tuning. I did spent several hours to make the plane work properly. What I like: very good workmanship, the blade is very well made, the body is made with great precision (but, still need a lot of tuning). What I don't like: the blade needs a lot of honing before it can be used. The seat of the blade needs to be trimmed to seat the blade properly. The cap iron needs to be sharpened and adjusted to seat properly.Overall, it is a great value for less than 60 dollars. After the hard work is done, it performs far better than most expensive western planes.

I’m loving my Japanese hand tools
I’m loving this plane. As a comparison I have a number of Veritas planes that also serve me well, and this one is no different. Today I tried using it as a smoother, basically to remove old finish and make the surface smooth as glass. It worked and without any plane tracks. The iron was easily sharpened and adjusting the depth of cut was just as simple.

Nice hand plane
This is my first japanese hand plane. I spend some time tuning the wooden base and sharpening the blade and it worked really nice especially with softwood. Still need some adjustment but i hope it will perform better. Don't expect it to work properly out of the box, so be sure that you have proper sharpening stones and woodworking tools to tune it.
