A great start.
This book is one of a three volume set. I'm going to reserve my final review until I finished it there's one particular thing that happens in this volume that has me a little perplexed, but again I'll wait until I finish them all I look forward to it!

I expected sex but not well done here...just stuck in
I was looking for some more romance but, mea culpa, this was just sexual encounters stuck in wherever and for whomever, including the parents of our heroine. I like such scenes when they are well handled but this didn't appeal to me. I will not buy the second volume. I have read the original book by Elizabeth Gaskell and wanted to add to the romance she so skillfully wrote. The original text is used but there could have been scenes with sexual tension added, some angst to lead up to those scenes in "the bedroom". Can't really recommend.

Actions speak louder than words....apparently!
What can I say, I loved it...and part 2....and part 3. I did make notes like "Why didn't he SAY something?!" But that's one of the key elements of N&S, the misunderstandings and misinterpretations. Definitely R-rated. The steaminess isn't confined to John and Margaret's encounters but let's face it, they were the only ones that mattered! I think the entire original manuscript is included but at key points the author enhances the story. I have read it more than once!

Well done. This is my first read of a "Wild and Wanton" edition, in which new sensual scenes are added to a classic novel. Ms. Chase's scenes were seamless additions that enhanced my enjoyment of this marvelous tale. She did an outstanding job merging her writerly "voice" with that of Elizabeth Gaskell's, and I appreciated how the characterizations stayed true to the time period, but also added a sexiness that contemporary readers might appreciate. If you like steamy reads with a plot and great characters, you'll enjoy this book. But be forewarned--- you'll certainly need a fan to cool yourself! 4.5 stars.

Racy!
I love most of the additions to the original text, but I could have done just as well with just the John and Margaret scenes. I wasn't terribly interested in any other characters' sex scenes. They were well-written, though, and a lot of the subtler additions were hard to distinguish from the original text.

Beautifully Done!
I didn't know what to expect when I picked up North and South: The Wild and Wanton Edition, but what I found exceeded all my expectations. This is a wonderful weaving of the steamier romance scenes today's readers expect into a timeless, classical romance beloved by many. The classical story of Margaret Hale's and John Thornton's impossible attraction takes on an added excitement when readers are given "the rest of the story." If you enjoyed the original North and South, don't miss The Wild and Wanton Edition.

Terrific idea!
First, they added in vampires, zombies, sea monsters, etc, so adding in sex would be a no-brainer. I'm not a purist so I can enjoy this tweaking of a classic.

I liked book one
I liked book one. I liked book 2 a lot less and didn't like book 3 at all. It was like they were written by different authors. I do not recommend them

A book of pork.
Storyline was ridiculous. Sex, sex, sex involving every couple including Mr & Mrs Hale. Premarital sex engaged in by every couple. Just too thick & shallow. Thank goodness I only paid $2.99 for this trash - overspent $2.98 in my book. Rubbish.

An impressive alternate version of the superb original.
I was thrilled with the story and the respectful use of very good English which, for the most part, was true to the period.
