My son loves this book
I follow Caitlin on YouTube for years now, and I have just recently picked up this book for my son. We do have some members in our family who are declining in health and will eventually become a corpse. This book helps me talk to him about death and it is really detailed while being light hearted, as to not making him fear death but to understand it. Chapters are short to not bore a child to death, but are packed with information at the same time. We read one chapter before bed, sometimes two. He also loves the illustrations and loves describing what he’s seeing. I’m really hoping for another book aimed at children because I do not know what I’m going to read to him when this is done.Review from a 9 year old:“I don’t like this book, I love it! Corpse farts *childish laughter*”

Excellent Resource for Kids
This is an amazing little book to help dispel the fear of death as well as answer curiosities I’m certain adults have as well as children. I am a big advocate of educating kids about this subject. Kids get the sex ed classes in school, why not death ed? When my mother passed away my children, 6, 11, and 16 were present to witness the cremation with me. We all placed letters we had written, pictures, and small meaningful items in with her before she was rolled in. Two hours later we were all there to watch her come out. My children, especially my six year old, were FASCINATED. We all surrounded the tray with her bones and watched as surgical hardware, dental work, staples, etc... were sorted out, then the rest ground up and placed into a bag and then a box. Yes, my mother was loved immensely, and for us, shepherding her through this process gave us a feeling of closure when it was done. My father recently passed and we again repeated this ritual. I did not force my children to be there, it was their choice. Previously all have seen pets of our cremated as well, so that was a fair start to witnessing a person be cremated. It’s not just what they see though. It’s taken a lot of talking, educating, and answering many questions over the course of their young lives for them to be comfortable with this subject, and I wish this book had been around 20 years ago when my oldest was born, because the learning has to start young. I love that Caitlin writes not only with her knowledge and humor but also with great respect to her intended audience; kids. It’s simplified but not “dumbed down.” It’s genuine, and it’s the truth. I would recommend letting your child read the chapter titles in the front and choosing which chapter to read. Some might be more unsettling than others, depending on age. My youngest is 9 now and although she has no issues with witnessing a cremation she was not a fan of chapter 1, so we bounced around the book. When she gets more comfortable someday she can go back and read the few chapters she wasn’t ready for. They don’t need to be read in order.A very well done book!

Best book/hilarious
This book is my all time favorite. It takes a pretty dark/scary subject and explains it in a funny/relatable way. The tone is amazing and it’s an incredible read. I recommend it to everyone I know!

Not Just For Kids!
I started with Caitlin's other two books, thinking this one was geared more toward kids. Also, I knew a lot of these questions I'd already seen answered on her YouTube channel, "Ask a Mortician". But after the other two books I was craving anything and everything written by her, so I bought this one too. It was worth it. There was additional content besides what I'd seen on her channel, and as for being for kids? Well, sometimes kids ask the questions we adults want to ask but we're afraid to, so most of the questions were about things I wanted to know as well. Very informative as well as entertaining. A great read!

Highly recommended & Amazing Book!
I bought this for my daughter who is about to start college for her mortuary science degree. The author Caitlyn Doughty is her personal hero. I started watching her YouTube series years ago because I was considering getting into bereavement counseling. I told my daughter about this & showed her the videos. We both so enjoy them it became something we would view together. I had no idea all these years later it would be something that so sparked her interests that it would mold her future! We have all 3 of her books but I believe this one is our favorite! We so appreciate her fresh, honest, open perspective & reasoning. Death & all it’s aspects & variables are a difficult & often tricky subject for many people. Caitlin has a way of being frank yet comforting & humorous while maintaining a respectable & tasteful manner. Even if you aren’t seeking out a profession or have invested interest in the subject this book is a must read! There’s something helpful & insightful for everyone at every age. There’s adorable artwork & careful, loving, thoughtful, valuable information about the great equalizer & inevitable end we all come to.

Great book
If you ever wanted your morbidly curious questions answered (and I think most people do), this is the book for you. I had read "Smoke gets in your eyes" by the author before and loved it. This one didn't disappoint. Well written, funny, and honest, it will put to rest a lot of rumour about death and answer those important questions.

Great book for old and new fans of Caitlin!
The dark approach to the "death theme" is softened in this book by the easy and open questions of little ones, with some very funny but at the same time informative answers from cool Caitlin! Just buy it! Go...now!

Interesting
This looked like such a fun book to read regardless of the topic, and I wasn’t wrong. It was lighthearted, full of funny quips and at the same time covered a very difficult subject matter and was informative.I’m not sure I should have chosen to read it a week after my nan died though, but it did manage to put a lot of things into perspective for me. However, I’m not sure I will be remaining practical about the situation at her funeral later this week. After reading what happens during a cremation, I’m not sure the mental image will ever leave me.It was good to read, though, and know that my cats aren’t circling me waiting for me to die so that they can eat me. They will at least wait a few days, so I have some time that they will just think I’m asleep before starting to munch on my face! I must remember not to fall out with everyone I know so that people will be concerned if I disappear for a day or two and check in on me!The book was brilliantly written, and I learnt so much whilst it still remained laid-back and playful. The author certainly has a great sense of humour.Overall, a great book to read and if you’ve ever wanted to know the answers to some strange and morbid questions about what happens to your body after you die then this is definitely the book to read.
