EZ Gliding, no divots from the "one spot" like vinyl mats
This is a joyful EZ gliding experience. My office setup is carpeted (usual thick pile home carpet, not thin commercial), and I needed to replace my 15-year-old vinyl chair mat. It had finally worn through holes in the "one spot" I normally sit. Before that it had years of rolling back into "place" any time I tried to move around my workspace (those who know, understand the scooting required for maneuvering). I tried the current vinyl offerings - smaller, thinner, immediate divots. Was interested in the glass options, but the thought of it shattering made me uncomfortable. Then I found this mat. Old school polycarbonate glossy plastic. Thick enough to be used on my carpet without any issues. Maybe it will crack in time or the surface will dull from the wheels rolling, but that is the point - they do roll. I can zoom from one side of my desk/workstation to get to a drawer, and then zip over to the printer. It's like an air hockey table for your office chair. Two minor dings: 1. Plan on using a fine sandpaper block to hit the edges before use/pulling off the plastic cover. The literally takes 10 minutes, and ensures you have no sharp edges at all. You may not. 2. It does move around some, so you may need to push it "back" (like 1 inch) sometimes. I'm sure there is a way to better anchor this in some way, but really, who cares? The benefits far outweigh this tiny annoyance. For me this is better than the glass alternatives - less expensive and it might (and I mean maybe in the future) crack, depending on your circumstances and use. To once again have the freedom to zip around, well worth it!

This is the one to choose
All the reviews about how sharp the edges are were quite dramatic. This item is perfect! I can roll around in my office chair with absolutely no resistance. Yes you will need to get used to how freely your chair rolls now. That’s the point. After struggling with other chair mats “made for carpet” constantly bunching up and making it hard to move around, this is a huge relief. Also I feel like it’s helping me maintain better posture.

Functions very well.
Appears to be a great product, but there was a miniscule chip on one corner and what appeared to be tiny bubble on one edge. Neither one caused me to return the product and I am satisfied with how it performs as a rolling chair platform.

Just what I needed
I've read a lot of the negative reviews (few of them compared to positive, but there are still plenty) and none of the points much matter to me. To address my own view of several of them:1. It slides around on carpet. Well, it doesn't for me. I thought it MIGHT because it does in fact have nothing to grip carpet, but I put it down several days ago, put my chair on it, and it hasn't mover a fraction of an inch. Maybe it's my carpet, or maybe my 250lb or so weight that spends a lot of time on my computer chair on the mat, but whatever, it's just not been a problem for me.2. It gets scratched up. Well, yes, it already has some, but I just don't care. Doesn't matter to me. It could be opaque for all I care. Heck, I want it primarily to make my chair roll easier as it's almost impossible to roll on my carpet, and secondarily to protect the carpet, and it works great for both. I really don't much care what it looks like.3. It's opaque white not clear as listed - no, it is CLEAR. I actually had it down and was using it thinking it was opaque which, as I said above, would still be fine with me, until I saw the video on one of the reviews and realized I still had a plastic sheet on one side. It adheres VERY tightly and isn't clearly even there. You have to dig at a corner with a finger nail or something to just loosen it enough to even know it exists, then you can pull it off. And the instructions, printed on the much easier to remove and more obvious plastic on the OTHER side, are not very clear about that [pun somewhat intended.]4. "It's just a sheet of plexiglass." Um, yeah, so? I guess the suggestion is that you could buy a sheet from .. where, who sells it cut to size? No idea. But if you found it you could. Well, ok. If you want to go researching where to buy that, ordering it cut to size, and either go get it or pay for delivery, because it's a little cheaper, more power to you. What would that cost, twenty bucks? I've no idea, but let's say 20. It's worth the extra 38 to me to just order it at 3 AM with a tumbler of scotch in hand and have it magically appear at my door a couple days later.5. Sharp edges. Well, true. And if you go barefoot in the room where you have it that might be an issue. I never, ever, do that so again, I just don't care. Now it's not perfect, and I debated whether to give four or five stars but decided the minor quibbles I have were not worth down-rating by one star. Mainly, it's TOO smooth on top and the chair rolls too easily. I got used to it, but it feels a bit like sitting your chair on ice. I think it would be better with some texture added to the top, or maybe to both sides so the bottom would grip carpet better for those who have that issue. But then it wouldn't be so clear as some of you want. OTOH, some texture would prevent scratching so badly or scratches that do happen from showing as much. It would probably cost more though.2. It could be a little larger. But it is the size it says it is so you can't really complain about that, and it's about the size of most chair mats and a bit larger than many, especially counting the fact it's a rectangle instead of having the "tongue" protrusion on the front that most do.Bottom line is that you are getting a thick, fairly heavy piece of plexiglass sized for a chair mat that will protect your carpet and let your chair roll easily and NOT (probably, I have only had it a few days) crack into pieces in a year or two like the vinyl ones, and I paid nearly this much for the last three or so of those I bought at a local office store. That's just what I needed and what I got. Very happy with the purchase.EDIT: After it apparently compacted the carpet some more it does slide around, but I don't care. I position it once a day or so and it's good. I may try some double sided tape but I haven't been in a hurry to even bother. It still helps my chair roll effortlessly and protects my carpet AND doens't break into pieces like all the other mats. Still happy with it.

High quality, wears well and looks good.
Bought this for a second room since the first worked so well under our rolling office chair. Main goal was to protect sculpted carpet and remain beautiful while allowing chair to roll easily. The older one has heavy usage over several months and still looks good. Stiffer quality, not flimsy.

Good quality
While it's not a glass surface, the plastic is pretty thick and supports my secretlabs chair without issue. Only minor downside is it can drift overtime if used on carpet, but it's so minimal that I don't hold it against it.

Great mat.
I have regular thickness plush carpet. I used the soft style chair mat, but my chair rollers would create indentations and would make it hard to move around. This mat is absolutely perfect - it totally eliminated the problem. There is no issue with slipping.
