The Gallstone-Friendly Diet

Must-Read for People w/Gallstones!
I loved this book! I was going through the most painful 3 months of my life due to gallstones and while I waited for my surgery date I read The Gallstone Friendly Diet to prepare myself. It seems Juliet was actually able to eat a lot more than I was before surgery, but it gave me so much hope and I felt like I had a buddy through all of this. Her story was funny and informative, and the recipes are great (I can eat pancakes?!! Yay!) I just had my surgery and I’m happy that I have these recipes to turn to, especially since Thanksgiving is only a few days away. I won’t be able to indulge in all of the food my family will be serving but thanks to Juliet, I have a few ideas in mind, like her Veggie Shepherd’s Pie. I love that the recipes are ranked based on their fat content too. I’m slowly easing into eating fat so having these as a guide was so helpful. Before my surgery I could really only consume smoothies, broths, and plain tuna, but now I can explore a little more with her recipes. This book is a must-have for anyone who is suffering with gallbladder issues/gallstones and especially those who will or have had surgery. Thankfully I was able to read this before my surgery and had some ideas for what to eat and what recovery would be like - it was just good to hear from someone who went through the same experience. I felt so lost (and hungry) before, and thanks to Juliet’s humor and knowledge, I’m getting through it, one day at a time!

Good book
I really enjoy the authors sense of humor. The best part of the book is her stories. I don't have gallbladder problems but thought the book would be interesting in case it happens. Yes it's in my family. I'm glad I don't have to eat this way but the recipes are good anyway. I look forward to more of her humorous books.

Somewhat Informative
It was an easy to read book, and I really liked the recipes and plan to try some. But I felt some of the personal life into could have been left out.

A Humorous Look at Gallbladder Issues with Delicious Recipes
Juliet Sullivan has written an informative and humorous book about her experiences with gallstones. She had to figure out what she could and could not eat while she waited for her operation to remove her gallbladder. She was a fast learner because anything with fat in it caused her a tremendous amount of pain, worse than childbirth apparently. This book explains what surgery was like and what to expect afterwards. She had some low points but pulled through by relying on her sense of humor. This book is perfect for anyone facing the same challenges but the recipes are also great for anyone looking into a low-fat or vegetarian diet. Some of the recipes include:Fruit Skewers with yogurt dip (add vanilla and stevia if you want it sweetened)Non-Fat Gravy (who knew?)PancakesOmelets (egg white only)Apple Sauce Oatmeal MuffinsVeggie SkewersNo-Fat Minestrone SoupGrilled FishVeggie Shepherd's PieBanana Bread (uses applesauce instead of oil)I can't wait to try these recipes. I'm thinking I need to be proactive since my mother just had her gallbladder out. If this is hereditary I need to cut back on fat even more than I already do. You will find this book motivational and entertaining at the same time. I loved it!~The Rebecca Review

Excellent book!
I purchased about 5 books on Amazon re gallstones and this book is highly recommended! It’s U.K. not USA and is not “independently published”. Juliet Sullivan has a great sense of humour and the advice and recipes (even I can make them!) are second to none. Buy it!

We can find humour in recipes and illness!
This book is engaging, helpful, inspiring and makes you chuckle. The comic relief is needed and done tastefully as the book is very informative.I loved the recipes as they are realistic and affordable! Juliet also did a great job at giving us the "why".. for example the section on Good fats and bad fats.Thank-you for sharing your experience they way you did and providing us what worked for you.

A book about gallstones and gallbladder
It’s a nice quick readI was interested because of my recent diagnosis. I don’t know many others who have experienced it, and appreciated the perspective. It was useful, but what I’m learning about gallstones is that everyone is very, very different. The recipes are good with people who aren’t knowledgeable about cooking. The recipes are basic and I had hoped for more extensive ideas.Still, I’m glad I purchased!

Very relatable and good humour
Great read-recently been diagnosed with gallstones and in lots of pain so this book has been really helpful. Great recipe ideas and a very relatable experience. Would have like some more pictures to break up all the text though-especially with the recipes so you know what you’re aiming for!
