Perfect for Toddlers
A group of diverse children share their favorite means of transportation uniting in their love of buses. The simple rhyming text with only a few words on a page make this a natural read aloud for storytimes or one-on-one sharing with a small child on your lap. The vehicles range from the typical trains and cars to more the more imaginative, “Sometimes I wish I could ride on a fish. If I were allowed, I’d sit on a cloud.” This is a sweet story that can also be used as a conversation starter asking what a child’s favorite vehicle is.

A wonderful read aloud and ode to the fanciful side of things that go.
I had the pleasure of reading this book to a group of toddlers today, and was very pleased with the results! This book has a soft and smooth read aloud flow that is perfect for the youngest story time audiences. Kids all love things that go, and this book manages to bring in quite a variety! We get cars, trains, horses and bikes, and we also get some more fanciful trips on clouds and even a fish. The repetitive refrain "the bus is for us" is strangely comforting, and as I was reading this aloud, I saw some of the two year olds in the audience begin to repeat it with me.The illustrations in this little gem are as soft as the rhyme, with lots of pastels and swirly lines. Fortunately for me, they are not so soft that they won't work for a group - they are just kind of dreamy. The illustrations are large, and they capture attention easily! This book is a wonderful addition to my story time collection and a first choice for any toddler developing an interest in the fanciful side of transportation.

Not popular in our house
While this is a lovely simple book, it hasn't proved a huge hit in our house. Things that go are very popular with my preschoolers. This book has lovely simple rhymes, one per page which are short and have an accompanying picture. The pictures are in quite muted colours and don't seem to appeal to my children though. I think there is a bit of a mismatch between the simple text and pictures that might appeal more to an older child.

This book is for me
I enjoy Michael Rosen's work and have used his work a lot with children I work with. I saw this story being read on YouTube and got a copy. A short poem with great illustrations. A must for children who love all things to do with transport, especially buses.

Not sure about this one sadly.
I bought this on the back of bear hunt. But I sadly don't really get the book at all. It's no way near as entertaining and my little boy didn't even make it to the end.

Definitely a good buy!
This was bought as a gift, together with another Michael Rosen book, for a friend's toddler twins. Michael Rosen certainly knows how to use words to entertain and stimulate youngsters.

Nice pictures and story / rhyme
As with most children's books for that age group, not the longest read but nice pictures and story / rhyme running through the book.
