Get Real: Sharing Your Everyday Faith Every Day

Every Christian should read this!
Leonard's book contrasts traditional evangelism and what he calls "real" evangelism - traditional evangelism being what so many of us learned to do, with a rote gospel presentation, sharing our testimony about how we were saved, etc. "Real" evangelism, however, focuses more on the needs of the person you're talking to - how does the gospel apply to them personally and specifically instead of how do they fit into the rote presentation we've memorized?I love this book and can see coming back to it again. It started a little slow, but around the middle picked up the pace with chapters that each addressed a specific idea on how to evangelize. His chapters on how to disciple non-believers, how to make yourself approachable so people will want to talk to you, and how to talk to people of other faiths were worth the cost of the book. Some of his ideas are somewhat counter-intuitive because of how many churches have taught people to evangelize, but his reasoning makes a lot of sense. Every Christian should read this book.

Get Real is a highly practical how-to for the basics ...
Get Real is a highly practical how-to for the basics of sharing your faith without scaring others away, and without being afraid yourself. Throughout the book Leonard distinguishes between traditional evangelism methods and the way Jesus taught, and provides many examples of the methods he suggests from his personal life. Sometimes there were a little too many personal examples, distracting from the point he was trying to make and shifting the focus to his triumphs, although I am sure that is not what was intended. Besides that, I appreciate the book for how straightforward and simple it is.

There’s a term I learned a long time ago and still resinates with me today, “Keep it Simple Stupid” - This Book does just that. In a world that has turned to its own system of the Gospel and to men with “inching ears” I found the principles in this book relevant, true and simple. It certainly gives a system of how to deliver the Gospel, but keep in mind not an in-depth teaching on the gospel itself. I believe if you read the book by John MacArthur, “The Gospel According to Jesus” and then read and implemented this book, you would have quite the advantage. Of course with the Holy Spirits leading...

Refreshing, Encouraging, and Practical
I have to confess that when I read reviews, I usually start with the negative ones first. I find I learn more there. Sometimes I will be convinced by the arguments, sometimes not. In this case, I couldn't disagree more with them. I found the book to be refreshing and encouraging but most of all practical. I've been a Christian a long time and learned many ways of evangelizing: the four spiritual laws, Evangelism Explosion, Ray Comfort's ten commandments approach, etc. Too many times I have seen others (and been guilty myself) of marching into battle with these tools without doing the main thing that Mr. Leonard stresses - listening and respecting the other person. This was a good reminder for me. I also appreciated being reminded that I am planting seeds. Finally, it was encouraging to be reminded of the truth that it is God who does the converting, not me. There is nothing particularly new here, but Mr. Leonard presented many natural, unforced, practical ways to implement them. In light of that, I respect that this book may not be helpful for everyone, but it did renew my desire to share the gospel which I am sure we can agree is the main point.

An above average book on Evangelism
Any attempt to do evangelism and teach evangelism should be applauded. The author had some good points in the book to take to heart. Recognizing that conversion doesn't happen immediately but tends to follow a journey of learning is good to keep in mind. I was disappointed by how the author seemed to shy away from using the law in a gospel conversation. Romans 7:7 says that if it hadn't been for the law Paul wouldn't have known what sin was. We must share the gospel in the context of the law to be effective. The final chapter seemed to be written as an add-on which was also disappointing. It should have been the first chapter and not the last because it explained the gospel and described the gospel as the motivation for evangelism.

Awesome
Very good book on a subject that needs to be discussed in the church. The author does an excellent job at making simple yet profound points. Very easy reading but packs a punch. Our Sunday School class is going through this book chapter by chapter as group and are loving it.

Keeping it simple
We have all heard a multitude of ways to share the gospel but the author here takes you back to the beginning. It is not about what you memorize it how much you know, it is about keeping it real. The relationship. It begins between you and Jesus and it should be the same through you to others. Extremely enjoyed the simple approach and the reminder of where it is all at....the relationship.

The pastor who prays for waitresses
Does your church teach you to walk up to strangers and ask "Do you know where you're going when you die?" If it does, buy a copy of this book. Read it and then pass it on to your pastor and small group leader. This book offers 21st century methods to reach the world for Jesus Christ.Three key takeaways I got from this book are:1. Evangelize to CHRISTIANS and disciple NON-CHRISTIANS. The majority of churches today are just the opposite.2. To lead someone to Christ, listen more than talk.3. Pray with your eyes open, especially with non-Christians.I've used for several years one of the evangelism methods the author recommends. Tell your waitresses you're going to pray before you eat the meal they've brought you. Ask the waitress if they have a special need you can include in your prayer. I have NEVER had a waitress or waiter turn me down. The author says he's now known by all the staff in his favorite restaurant as "The Pastor who prays for waitresses."
