Tom & Jerry 1957-1960 Remastered

About half tracks are of a parallel universe Everly Brothers. Second half split between Dorsey Burnette sound-alike and Bobby Vee sound-alike efforts plus other changes in style so much a part of West Hollywood popular artists of the period un-successfully seeking a style that would consistently make teen-oriented "hits." (One British vaudeville track , for example). Believe this disk is mastered from old tapes, you can hear the overloading and some indeterminacy of note structure from long storage. Acceptable sound especially as compared with other complilations using needle drops, this one is easily processed via equalizer. Sound gets 2.5 stars, content is as good as ever will be heard thus 4 stars for collectors of lost R and R.

Paul Simon et Art Garfunkel en 1957 sous le nom de Tom and Jerry pour 11 titres bien sympas au style très proche des Everly Brothers. Les morceaux sont courts, autour de deux minutes mais ce sont déjà de belles interprétations même si 5 ne sont pas de leurs mains.En bonus 6 chansons d'Art Garfunkel seul sous le nom d'Artie Garr. Puis 4 par Paul Simon sous le nom de de Jerry Landis et deux dernières toujours de Paul qui s'appelle alors True Taylor. Tout celà date de 1958 à 1960. Pas d'autre renseignement sur ce CD, c'est le principe des rééditions Magic sous la forme la plus simple. Dommage, un livret n'aurait pas été de trop mais la présentation et le prix auraient sans doute été différents...De toute façon, il est toujours bon de compléter les oeuvres de cet excellent duo qui va devenir incontournable à partir de 1963. Certains titres sont plus rocks que d'autres, comme ce "true or false" qui clot le disque. Recommandé donc.

ポール・サイモンとアート・ガーファンクルは、よく知られているようにサイモン&ガーファンクルとしてブレイク以前に、デュオとしてトム&ジェリー、そしてそれぞれソロとしてアーティー・ガー（アート・ガーファンクル）、ジェリー・ランディス（ポール・サイモン）、トゥルー・テイラー（ポール・サイモン）としても活動していました。本CDはその時代（1957～1960年）までの音源を集めたCDです。サイモン&ガーファンクル・ファンの視点では、コレクターズ・アイテムとなってしまい一部の熱狂的なファンにしか受け入れられないような音源でも、オールディーズという視点からはかなり貴重で内容のある音源であるといえると思います。私が本CDを購入した理由は、20.「Tick Tock」と21.「Just Be With You」の2曲を聴きたかったから。ポール・サイモンは一時期、ドゥー・ワップに傾倒しており、本CDには未収録ですがティコ&ザ・トライアンフスというグループ名でホワイト・ドゥー・ワップをやったり、「Hushabye」のヒットで有名なザ・ミスティックスの後期レコーディングにも参加したりしていました。「Tick Tock」は、そんなポール・サイモンが書いたアップ・テンポの佳作で、リッチー・コーデルという歌手がレコードを発売しています。この曲はホワイト・ドゥー・ワップのファンならば琴線に触れること間違いなしで、私も大好きな曲です。これが作者のポール・サイモン自身の歌声で聴けるのですから、もう凄いこと。またポール・サイモンは50年代後半に、あのキャロル・キングと共にデモ・テープを作製したりしていたそうですが、「Just Be With You」はそのころにレコーディングされたもの。バック・コーラスにはキャロルも参加しているらしいです。この曲は、ホワイト・ドゥー・ワップ・グループのザ・パッションズによりヒットしています。これも凄い。本CDは一応、24ビット・リマスターとなっていますが、あちこちからいろいろな形で発売されているこの当時の音源と音質的にそう変わるものではありません。ジャケットも紙ジャケット方式で、その中にCDが裸でポロッと入っているだけ。残念なのは解説なども一切付いていないこと。
