Delivers an excellent water resistance workout!
While rehabbing from surgery, I was introduced to Hydro-Tone Hydro Bells, and really enjoyed the workout. I tried to purchase my own set, but they are having production issues and none are available at this time. I purchased Aquastrength's bells, hoping they would be similar, but I was quite disappointed in the amount of resistance they produced. As a last resort, I purchased a set of Hydroshredders and they turned out to be fantastic! For those who are not familiar with water resistance training, it is very different from the foam type of water dumbells that simply float upward. Water resistance bells resist was you push and pull them through the water. The harder/faster you push/pull, the more resistance you feel. This gives a surprisingly effective workout, and when pushed/pulled in different directions and different body positions (squat, lunge, etc), you can really get a full body workout even though you seem to only be working your arms. The Hydroshredders provide significant and smooth resistance in the water in nearly all directions. They are great for punches, crossovers, lunges, rows, flies, etc and might actually provide a little more resistance than the Hydro-Tone bells. The handle is easy to grip and large enough to grasp comfortably with two hands as desired (e.g. for axe swings). Not only did the Hydroshredders produce way more resistance than Aquastrength Bells, the Hydroshredders are also slightly buoyant. This is nice for when I want to work with just one bell at a time - I can simply let the other one float nearby rather than having to put it on the pool ledge. The only feature where the Hydroshredders come up short to the Hydro-Tone bells is that there's not much resistance when pushing/pulling towards the top and bottom of the bell (e.g. for hammer motions). Hydro-Tone has a larger surface area in that direction, but maybe Speedo had to sacrifice there to avoid patent infringement. You can still do the same exercises by twisting the Hydroshredders 90 degrees, but it means you'll work slightly different muscles. That's not enough of a problem for me to lower the rating from five stars.

Speedo has filled the gap
When HydroTone bells went out of production 3 years ago, it left a large void in the exercise/rehab equipment market. I must wonder if Speedo was looking at the Ebay sales on used sets and saying "we could do this", or if they were watching for the HT patent to expire. Well, wait no more: they're here.If anything, these bells have more drag than their market predecessors, which were state of the art for decades. As for those who can't handle a 75 pound dumbbell out in the air, no fear: resistance varies with speed. If two pounds is what you can do, move them about 1 ft per second. Force increases with the square of the increase in speed.Since their shape isn't square, you may find them a bit wobbly at first. Keep a loose grip and let them rotate into a stable position for whatever you're doing.

Great way to work out
I gave these to my husband for a gift. He loves them! They were a big hit. He uses them almost daily at the hot springs pool near us. If they were a little smaller they would fit in his gym bag.

Disappointed!
Just last week I would have rated these a "5". Then all of a sudden the handle came apart. I thought it was a quick fix, but not at all. Every time I try to use them in the pool after I attach the handle, it comes apart.

Excellent tool
An excellent alternative to the hydrobells. I’ve used these for several months now and find these more versatile and challenging. A ‘must-have’ in your swim bag

Water Resistance Equipment
Years ago I used a similar product in a class at a fitness club. The Hydro Shredders are a more substantial product. They are a bit unwieldy out of the water, but in the water they provide the kind of resistance I was looking for.
