DOWAN 10 OZ Small Dessert Bowls - 4.5" Ceramic Cereal Bowls Set of 8 - Porcelain Off-White Bowl for Side Dishes, Rice, Ice Cream, Oatmeal, Fruit, Soup - Dishwasher & Microwave Safe

I recently bought a new set of Mikasa dinnerware to replace my old china that had silver trimmings. We had used the old set for a number of years, and were used to the pieces that it contained - including small bowls that were often used for ice cream, mixing marinades, and feeding the cat. We bought the new set because we couldn't use the old set in the microwave without the snap, crackle, pop of the silver trimming. So we wanted a new set that could be used in the microwave, oven, and dishwasher. We really like the new set, but, alas, it did not include the small bowls that we used so often. I saw these bowl on Amazon, and decided to order them. They are perfect for what we need. The cat didn't even mind that they are a little deeper than the old bowls. They are a bit thicker than a good porcelain china, but I don't mind since they fill a need. At last I am happy with the new set of dishes which are also plain white. The 4.5 inch bowls would not be suitable for cereal or soup unless you have an extremely small appetite. They are very good for a couple of good sized scoops of ice cream, for a side of veggies for a TV meal, mixing marinades, or even to feed your cat. UPDATE 10/16/19: We have had these bowls for 4 years, and they still look like new. They are washed in the dishwasher, and the porcelain finish hasn't cracked as it has on the Corningware bowls we have.These bowls are our favorite for ice cream, and have been very useful for veggie sides when we have dinner in the family room. I also think the base on them makes them look a bit more elegant than a plain bowl.

Hello, Lyn & Dom et al, We bought a set of these rice bowls some months ago, upon our return from living abroad in Vietnam (3 years) and Thailand (13). We love these bowls! ...and defended them on Amazon, under the review title "Critical of the critics", back on December 12. So, since they do break and chip fairly easily - we defended that aspect in our review (we have broken 1, chipped 2) - we just bought another set for the long term! ...and put the chipped ones away for possible future use. By the way, the picture we see beside this box says "Oven Mitt x 1"... but the card we received in the shipping box yesterday says "Oven Mitt x 2"... :-) That is certainly more... enticing! Best from us in California, - Ken & Thu Huong & Carlton ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [ update above ] Having just moved back to the US from 16 years abroad - in Asia, where we were accustomed to a particular size bowl that we have known as a "rice bowl" - these are just right for us. :-) (1) To those who have given the bowls a low rating on the basis of them being too small: That's your fault - you bought the wrong size for your purpose and desire - but don't rate the bowl down because of your mistake. :-) (2) To those who have given the bowls a low rating based on supposed fragility: If we drop one, it will break, just as for you - but that will be our fault, not the fault of the bowl - if you don't like the fragility of porcelain, whether breaking or chipping, buy plastic - but don't rate this bowl down because you made a mistake. :-) (3) And finally, to those who have given the bowls a low rating based on the base being too narrow, and wanting to tip over when somewhat empty and perhaps with a spoon in the bowl: The particular style of the base is as it is, with a thick narrow bead rim on the bottom, for the purpose of being cool (relatively) to the hand when the bowl is filled with hot food, keeping the bowl itself a bit away from the hand - it is meant to be held in the hand (an issue of both base design and size) while eating the rice - with chopsticks, of course! - although to be honest, even the woman of the house (my wife) has found a spoon more practical. If this bowl doesn't satisfy your needs and desires, buy something else - but don't rate this kind down simply because you make a mistake in buying it - the photos are pretty clear about the size and shape of the base. :-) We ourselves? ...we, as many others, have to give the bowls the 5 stars they deserve.

Thanks to the reviewers who made me buy these little bowls which are functional and beautiful. I needed 8 and they come by 8! They are smaller than a regular French cafe au lait bowl as they countain 10 ounces which is perfect for a portion of rice. Forget them if you want to serve salad or soup, they would be really small though. Look at the last picture up above. The 10 ounces bowl is the left one to give you an idea. I didn't know this brand, but it is a 100% very good quality porcelain and it is white, not cream or ivory if you need to match your porcelain plates. They go in the dishwasher, in the oven and in the microwave. They are really cool on the table for a Chinese or Japanese dinner, but not only! I use them to serve small portions of ice cream, they are perfect!

It's hard to guage what size bowl you want by looking online. These bowls are like the rice bowls you get served rice in in places. It fits in the palm of your hand. Note that it DOES hold quite a bit, but it tries to squeeze it into a tiny space so feels like you just are jamming everthing in there if you are trying to build an appearance factor with your food or need to be able to mix after serving, like let's say you sprinkled salt on something. the compact higher sides of this bowl would make it a little harder to mix than a shorter, wider bowl, so I prefer shorter wider bowls for most things, I've found. These hold as much, I've found, as our old corning ware cereal bowls. I found myself using them as a side dish bowl for fruits or veggies or rice, or is the kids wanted some cereal as a snack. Not a total loss. They are really good quality, light weight but pretty and durable.

These bowls are very tiny. However, I knew that when I bought them. I wanted footed bowls for nuts, dips, sauces and ice cream and these are perfect. They are thin, but again, I knew that when I bought them. The description says they hold 10 ounces but really about 8 ounces. (1cup) is about all one of these bowls will comfortably hold. I’ve not used them in the microwave but they’ve been in and out of my dishwasher with no problems. They stack neatly and take up very little storage space. I’ve had zero issues with them tipping over when a spoon is left in the bowl. These came packed really well without any cracks, chips or breaks.

These bowls are so perfect for so many things. Great for portioning snacks, especially if you’re on a diet. I use them while I’m cooking for so many things, holding ingredients, draining fat into, putting condiments on the table. Also wonderful for holding small craft items. I’ve dropped one on my corian counter a couple of times, and there has been no damage. Easily washes in the dishwasher. Even the box they came in has proved useful as a doll bed for my granddaughter’s favorite companion.

Looking good with rice

These little bowls are the best! I had thought they were going to be a little bigger, but it turns out that they are the perfect size for portion control for ice cream and yogurt. They make awesome condiment dishes as well. I plan on buying more products of this brand when I can because I am very impressed with how well made they are.. if you are looking for a great gift for yourself or a loved one, consider going with the DOWAN brand.

DOWAN 10 Ounce Small Bowl - I was skeptical about quality BUT I needed small bowls for a soup appetizer and I need them fast. I wanted a bowl that would hold 1-cup of soup. These say 10-ounce bowls - BUT - reading further, the fill level at 8-ounces is perfect for serving. They were packaged very well, no breakage. They fit perfectly with existing white dinnerware. They appear delicate but so far are actually very sturdy. Haven't had them long but already used them several times for, not only soup appetizer, but sides of rice and vegetable dip bowls. Works great to have multiple dip bowls around the room when entertaining. These bowls are well worth the price, I'm happy with my choice.

Writing a review a few years after buying. These are great. Only 2 have chipped, and that was after dropping them. They've gone through the dishwasher with 0 issue, and stack great with one another in said dishwasher. I can't recommend these enough. There's been no staining or odors clinging to them after being cleaned.

The bowls arrived undamaged, nicely packed in the carton box! I like the size of the bolwls. They are sturdy, practical, and white colour is peffect for me.
