If you are looking for a heavy single blanket to keep you warm in a cold room (it can get down into the 40's Fahrenheit / single digits in Centigrade) then this is for you. This is a cold-winter blanket. Maybe still OK for the shoulder months, but too hot for Spring/Fall. If you can not sleep under a heavy blanket - this is not for you. This causes the blanket to appear darker (almost black) in low light conditions; navy in regular lighting, but - in strong light - the matted down portion can appear to be much lighter than navy. However, I do not think it ever appears to be as bright a blue as royal. **Q: Does it shed?** A: Not like the cheap ones do, no. **Q: Is this 2 ply?** A: Yes, the two I bought in 2012 from this manufacturer was the heavy two-ply desired. **Q: How would you describe the tone of this blue color? royal, navy, cobalt, Egyptian, etc. vibrant or dark? thanks!** A: Solaron Queen Solid Navy Korean Mink Blanket : Words don't really describe the color well. It's somewhere between a Navy blue and a Royal Blue, because it has a sheen to it's fibers. The best way to really see it would be to look at the 5th picture on the Amazon site (counting from the first one on left) and zoom over it with the mouse. That's a pretty accurate color of the blanket. You really can't tell unless you zoom in tho. I used it straight out of the package, did not notice any strong chemical smell like others reported. This is NOT a lightweight blanket, is heavy (i ordered the full/queen size), you will know you have a blanket on you for sure. Extra soft and cozy, might not be a true Korean Mink blanket like a previous reviewer said, but it is the closest that I have found in a long time.
