The LG Electronics LAB550H Sound Plate (2015 Model) has an Ethernet port that allows you to connect to your router with an ethernet cable or you can connect it to your router wirelessly much the same way that you would your computer. It has an Optical Digital Input that you can connect to your TV if your TV has an optical digital output. It also has 2 x HDMI Inputs on it, so if your TV has an HDMI Output, you can use that to connect to the SoundPlate or if your TV has an HDMI ARC port, you can also simply connect that to the HDMI ARC port on the SoundPlate. IF your TV has neither of the aforementioned ports, the only other option would be the 3.5 mm Portable In port (most commonly referred to as the headphone jack) on the SoundPlate. If your TV has the Red/White RCA Stereo Audio Outputs on it, you can connect to the Portable In on the SoundPlate with a mini to stereo cable from your TV. The interface and menu defaults are kind of quirky and annoying. Not sure if it's my unit in particular of if others have experienced the same quirks.I come from the Roku experience where all I have to do is turn on the tv and the Roku app is where I last left it. With the sound plate I chucked the old tube tv and bought a 28 inch flat screen HD monitor. So in order to turn off the monitor I have to turn off the sound plate. When I turn on the sound plate it doesn't go to where I last left it, like the Roku. Instead it goes to the main menu and starts cycling the dvd tray open then close a few times. Sometime the dvd tray hangs up and freezes the whole system.I'd be happier if there was a setting that would make the system start up to the function it was at when it was shut down.
