The Smart Stepdad: Steps To Help You Succeed

I wish I would have read the series earlier in our relationship. It’s a must read for. Blending families. Guys don’t assume that you know what you’re doing and “how things will be”.

I wish this was more clearly advertised as a Christian book. I have no problem with whatever religion you choose to worship, but I would have liked to know what I was buying. Decent advice, but can basically sum the whole book up with “Be a good Christian.”

The book is well written and takes the time to lay everything out while utilizing real life scenarios stepdads will definitely encounter.Some reviewers complained the book was too religious. I'm not a religious person but I am okay with others believing what they want to. With that being said, the Christian references are not overbearing and are sparingly used. Most of which can easily be circumvented by just skipping to the next paragraph.I immediately implemented some of the recommended areas and techniques that would make an immediate and helpful impact in my step family household. In our family, this books recommendations were well received and have put our family in a better position than it was while on a path were success is much more attainable.I'd recommend this book to any step-father or step-dad to be.

I did not know it was a Christian book. This did not take away from the good incite and helpful tips this book had to offer. I am very glad I read the book, it gave me an understanding of what to expect. When my step child's behavior mirrored the book. I was prepared and felt confident that I could deal with the issue. The book gave me a since of this behavior is expected and normal and I looked at my step child's behavior as non-personal. I understood the behavior had nothing to do with me. I recommend this book if your not Christian and I am not don't let it cloud the fact that this book has something to offer.

I've been a step father for about 3 years to an 9 year old now. Needless to say we've had our bumps in the road and I realized that for the sake of my new marriage I needed help so I decided to reach out and do some research on step parenting. I came across this book and was very impressed and it made me realize something. Most of the issues has been me all along and now my relationship with my step daughter has turned 180 degrees and has made our house happier. It's made my marriage to my wife a whole lot better! I would definitely recommend for step fathers who struggle with step kids.

This book unfortunately made things worse for us. Things were going mostly well until my partner read this referencing how many of these step family marriages fail. And now it’s on his mind all day long and he talks about it constantly when any tiny thing pops up. I wish I had never purchased this book. It made things so much worse. It’s also geared mainly toward older step children, so if you have step babies or young step children this probably isn’t a good reference for you. It may confuse your partner into thinking your little one is acting like a step teenager and all the woes that go along with that. Awful experience.

My husband and I got married and have 3 sons now with a blended family. This book is very simple to read gives you a lot of insight on being a step parent and the right moves to make with your new step children and the ex wife or ex husband. My husband was making small changes with my son after only reading one chapter and I saw the difference it was making right away. We are very grateful for the authors who chose right these books they are helping us to become better parents and step parents to our children,I would give this book 10 stars if I could.

This book is extremely informative, but it does not do the best job of projecting hope for the reader. The general theme of the book is "there will always be problems". I am dating a woman who has two kids and a mentally unstable ex husband and this book has been very helpful in helping me establish an understanding of the optimal setup for living life with a divorce. This book gives clear expectations for future and current step dads.

I'll admit that I am only about 20% of the way through this book. So far it has definitely made me think, and has offered some interesting insights, but if like me you are not religious, then you may want to look elsewhere. Clearly the author sees God as a big part of life, which is fine if you agree with that view. However, if you don't, and feel that becoming a good step father doesn't involve any religious guff, then you're going to get irritated pretty quickly. The tone in the book can be a little patronising at times ("climbing the mountain of step fatherhood" wears a bit thin with it's endless analogies) but it is simple and uncomplicated at least. Sadly, the regular reminders that in the author's eyes faith and god are all part of the solution to my parenting challenges, are enough to cause me to wonder how much else of the book might also end up being a bit wide of the mark.

Very helpful and informative. Addresses many topics that books on the traditional role of a father simply do not contain.

Received very quickly. The book itself is filled with general, common sense thinking and is extremely preachy.

An absolute must read BEFORE it's too late for your blended family. I read this book 2yrs into my new frustrating to le as stepdad and it was like looking at a Chrystal ball with all the answers I wanted.

Book contains some good advice. Some parts a little too cliche for my liking, but worth the read. Contains some solid advice.
