Very Responsive Sticks With Amazing Sound
A Quick Background:Vic Firth is always my go-to for drumsticks, and they always will be. I played drums for jazz band, snare, quads and bass drum for marching band, percussion for concert band in college and I serve on the worship team at my church playing drum set, percussion and cajon. I've acquired some 8 years playing anything with sticks and taught them to over 30 children for 5 years.Review:The 5A series is an amazing drum stick. They are well balanced, high quality, durable sticks for the child and the grown man alike. I use my sticks so much that they generally last a few weeks tops (I average 1-2 hours a day), so I need to be making the most of them. I love the look of the sticks with the black coating. I am ordering my.... I think... 13th? pair right now. I have yet to receive a pair of sticks that weren't equally made. (By placing the sticks next to your ear and tapping the wood, you will hear a pitch and both sticks should have the same pitch.) At first, I was worried they would be too slick in the hand, but I've noticed that I have better grip with the coating. The coating will chip off over time as you hit cymbals and play rim shots or rim clicks. I've been using these current sticks for a week and you can see the use on them (the other stick is the standard 5A that I used for about 15 days). The wood is made from Hickory- a very light, durable wood with a slight flex for a more pronounced sound. The tips are deeply back-cut allowing for great cymbal response, especially on my ride.

See below for Husbands impressions.
My hubby liked getting more drumsticks for Valentine’s Day. He was literally out just that night at practice he broke his last pair and I bought him two! I bout these and also natural to see which he prefers. He said these don’t slip around in his hand and the paint doesn’t peel but he gets sweaty palms so he prefers the natural wood better. He did love the look of these though and said after the first little bit you get used to it. But he can’t be at a show with sticks flying around everywhere so I think we are gonna stay with his normal 5b natural for gigs and 7 a/b natural for practice with wood tips. Still Vic Firth- best in the business he’s tried all kinds higher end and cheaper and these fade away the way they are supposed to one chip at a time. Anyway they got here super fast and very well packed and I’m not taking off any stars just because of personal preference. I don’t think that’s fair. They are perfectly decent and well made Vic Firth drumsticks and you can’t beat that, or can you?? Haha

Nice sticks, but not perfect.
Vic Firth quality, they play well, and I do like how they look. They do have a slight "paint" smell, but it has dissipated some over the past few days. One of the sticks does have a scratch in the black paint after less than a week (see photo), so if that would bother you than you may want to consider if non-natural wood color sticks are what you want.

Great feel and weight
I was looking to replace my original 5A's that broke but was kind of shocked at the price. These are a great alternative and I'm very happy with the weight and feel of these sticks at 2/3 the price. the only thing that I can complain about was the smell when I took them out of the package. other than that very please and will buy more.
