It provided wide, even illumination that made it easy to see the cave walls, ceiling, and floor, which is a big advantage compared to a narrow-beam primary light. In the attached photo, you can clearly see the difference: the two other divers’ primary lights produce tight, focused beams, while this video light spreads illumination across the entire area. It really highlights how much more of the environment you can see at once with a wide-angle video light. That said, it’s important to remember this is a video light. The wide beam isn’t meant to be a super bright, focused hotspot. Because of that, you’ll notice more backscatter if there’s a lot of particulate in the water—but that’s expected with any wide-angle light. There are definitely more powerful video lights out there that can completely light up a cave, but those typically run $1,000+. For around $100, this is an incredible value. I didn’t use it long enough to need the second battery, but I really appreciate that the kit includes one. I mounted the light to a Big Blue dive helmet, and it worked great—just keep in mind that if you’re filming, your camera can cast a shadow if you hold it directly in the beam.
