U.S. Chess Quiver Chess Set Combination - Triple Weighted

Very nice set! 10-yr old grandson loved it for his birthday! Pieces are a nice heavier weight, and it all fits well in the tote bag, and it even room for a separate timer we included in the gift.

I bought this chess set so I can teach my grandchildren to play. It's perfect for that, and it would be just fine for any use right up to tournaments. The chessmen feel good, the board looks good, and I expect them to last a long time.The "board" is a roll-up vinyl mat with 2 1/4 inch squares, exactly as required for tournaments. It has rank and file markings along the outside edges, which is great for folks learning to play. The board smelled a little "plasticy" when it first arrived, but I left it out and unrolled for a couple of days, and the smell went away. I got the green-and-white board, which is pretty common in club and tournament games. The only downside with ordering through Amazon instead of directly from the House of Staunton's website is that the board and the bag have to be the same color. I like green, so I'm OK with that, but I wouldn't have wanted to take red-and-white board in order to get a red bag.The chessmen are the traditional Staunton design most chess players have seen and used. These are "triple weighted", and that's just the right amount of heft. They don't fall over by accident, like hollow or open-bottom men, but they also don't go "bam" when you place them. They're tournament size - the king is 3 3/4 inches high, and the rest of the set is scaled to match. They feel nice and solid, and they've got a felt cover over the base. Other reviewers have said that there can be small quality issues with them, and that happened to me. The weights in one knight were loose, rattling around and annoying me. I used Amazon to send a message to the seller, explaining this, and they responded the next day that they'd ship me a replacement. It arrived about a week later, and it's just fine.The "quiver bag" is really basic - you gently roll the board into a tube, slide it into the bag, and then you can put the chessmen inside the tube. I saved the ziploc bags that the men where shipped in, and use those to keep them from rattling around. I don't know if having the men loose would damage them, but why find out the hard way? The seller says the bag will also hold a chess clock, and there's certainly enough room, but I don't want a clock, so I can't say for sure.All in all, I'm very pleased with the set, with the price, and with the help I got replacing a knight.

We use this set almost every day. The pieces are the perfect weight and size. The bag is nice and the board is great. I highly recommend this set.

Been using this set for years at this point and would highly recommend it, especially if you like to ability to play on the go. Pieces feel quality and have a good weight to them and they slide very nicely on this board. I really like to be able to slide pieces into place smoothly and not have them get caught or stick to the board.For the price, this is an excellent and enjoyable set.

There are some small weights inside the pieces which definitely helps the game go smoothly as the pieces do not accidentally fall over during play. Great set, and totally solid!

This is a nice set. The board is a board - there’s not much to judge here but I will say that it’s a nice, large size with clear markings that make your life easier if you’re writing down your game. The pieces are outstanding - large size and a fantastic, heavy weight to them. And you get an extra queen with each color which is also nice.My one quibble - and the difference between four and five stars - is that I wish it had a nicer case to carry it in. It would be nice if there were separate pouches to store the pieces. It can be a bit of a puzzle at first trying to figure out how to get it all back in the bag. If I can save you some time - get some ziplock bags to keep the pieces in and when you’re packing up - roll them up inside the board and then slide it into the bag.

Well made solid chess set.

This is a great quality chess mat and weighted well made pieces. The bag is enough to hold the mat, if you want to fit the pieces in the same bag you will need to shove them in the tunnel of the mat roll.

Great set. Arrived in perfect condition and in a timely fashion. Very pleased with the product.
