Classic Flash in Five Bold Colors (Classic Flash, 1)

I recently started my tattoo apprenticeship and this book has been a go-to for learning american traditional style. Highly reccomend!

Saw a few reviews reporting this title for “racist imagery” and swastikas. I would just like to point out that the reverse swastika, especially in red which is seen in this book is actually a symbol for luck. Of course I wouldn’t tattoo it on anyone but people misunderstood I felt. Also the n-word reference in it is actually depicting a black hand hanging a klansman, and was drawn by a black artist. So maybe do your research before assuming. There are some “inappropriate” designs, but this is an adult medium and subject, so I think that’s to be expected. Great book, just not for kids.

Awesome book full of a bunch of cool flash sheets and wild designs. Well worth the money. Perfect coffee table book for a tattoo artist or to keep around the shop for others to look at.

this book has some good flash. good detail, of course it's old school so it's pretty plain- but good for what it is. most of the flash is actually done recently but in the old school style. good pics, some of it is comical. i'm keeping this one in my library of fun books/good flash for subject ideas. there are only a handful of pics in this book i would make stencils directly from, but lots of good ideas that could be re-drawn for great effects. worth the $16 bucks or so, IMO. have fun with it for what it is.

I love this book, it really shows a great history of traditional American tattoo, well wort the money. As a tattoo artist I really appreciate the fact that someone took the time to publish this book!!!!

Great book of traditional tattoos.

Mediocre, the book is just thrown together. Just simply not impressed by the quality of the book, definitely not something you wouldFind in any tattoo shop.

I have a keen interest in traditional tattoos and have collected some on paper and some on skin, and I occasionally like to have a bash at drawing some myself. This book then, I bought with the intention of using it for reference and inspiration, but it really surpassed all expectations!A problem with books on classic flash can be that there is it can be a bit of a minefield, a lot of books simply rehashing designs you've seen a hundred times, or have more written about the art than there is actual pictures. While the history is interesting, its not that helpful when you just want to draw something!A sentiment that the author shares apparently, as there is a short in introduction in which McCullock mentions some of the artists that he studied and had inspired him, and those he has collaborated with (the result of which you will see in flash sheets later in the book), and then goes on to explain that he thought the best way to appreciate and understand the art of traditional American tattoo was to take his paints, pack away all but the five most basic colours and start reproducing classic designs. This he did with care, talent, and a great deal of gusto it seems, as the rest of the book is filled with page after page of wonderful flash sheets!If the old idiom, "A picture is worth a thousand words" holds true, then with over 600 individual designs, ranging from the standard eagles and daggers to the out-and-out bizarre, this is not only a truely fantastic and unique collection, but an accomplished in-depth study into classic tattoo.

Another great reference book for tattoo ideas. Full of Original old school tattoo flash. Bright bold colours. Highly recommended. We used for both ideas and to tattoo some of the designs.

Amazing book for any tattoo lover, whether you're looking to redraw old designs or even picking out a new tattoo for yourself, this book is full of great reference for both styles and shading.

I will be returning this book. There are many swastikas riddled throughout, as well as minstrel imagery and a graphic design of a black man being hung. I do not recommend this book AT ALL. I would have given it zero stars if i could
