This hat is incredibly well made. It’s thick and obviously very warm, and the seller is first rate, but I had to return it for a refund because it is the funniest looking hat I’ve ever seen outside a circus funhouse. It’s super thick and stiff and sat a good 9 inches above my head when I had it on. When I tried adding a cuff to reduce the amount of excess wool above my head it became too tight to get around my scull. I feel sincerely bad saying anything negative, but I actually looked like a garden gnome wearing this hat. I suppose if you’re working at an arctic weather station and haven’t the slightest bit of vanity, this hat may become your best friend. Beautifully constructed, clearly warm, sized too small.

Best hat and warmest hat I've ever owned.And it will last a lifetime...I live in the mountain's and hunt and work outside a lot.I took a chance by spending the money these hats sell for , and am glad that I did.You get what you pay for and it is worth the price to never have my head get cold.And it is so well made that it will be the last hat that I will ever need.Update - I like this hat so much that I am buying another. Unbelievable hat. I am writing this report on the last day of the brutal winter storm in New England in which we got a little bit of a taste of what our folks in Alaska may be feeling every day. Everything that is said about the hat is true and multiply that by 2. Excellent hat for -30 Fo and below. It is worth every penny. That is why I am now ordering gloves. I will report back when I get them.

Since getting this hat, my life has changed. I used to be cold in winters, and would silently suffer. No more. This hat has given me confidence. WOW, is it warm. I find myself needing to take it off just to cool my head down! I'm sure I'd be fine even in a blizzard. In fact, it's pumped my ego up so much that I'm quite sure Skathi himself couldn't make me cold with this hat on my head. Lately, I've found myself cursing the gods just to challenge them to bring a blizzard so cold they would make me repent. Thus far, they've been completely quiet. I call that a "win" for Dachstein Woolwear. This hat is awesome. Buy it!

I have a bunch of wool hats, over 10, and this one is the best made, warmest, best hat by far. I would describe it as streamlined, thick, minimalist, and high performance.

With the 4-ply wool thickness, this Austrian wool cap is far more efficient than any man-made Thermo-whatever insulated watch cap I've ever owned....even my father's WWII naval submarine wool watch cap - which is hard to beat. Perfect!

This is the hat you need if you are going to Alaska or into the Alps for an extended outdoor stay in winter. It is thicker than I expected but rolls up to prevent overheating when exerting outdoors. The boiled wool repels water better/maintains heat than any of the modern tech fabrics I have used.
