So good I had to buy a second one!
I’ve had my first bottle for about 8 months now, bought it at my local surplus store, I fell in love with it since day 1, I just bought another bottle last month, I’m a very very active person I go mountain hiking, I do cross country cycling, mountain biking, ect ect, you get the idea, my last water bottle’s lid broke so I needed something new, I work for a water filter company so I know exactly how bad the water bottles you drink, they are horrible for you I’ve been looking into a filtered water bottle for a while, the filter works great, it cleans out all the microplastics that hurt you, It’s super easy to use, the filters also last longer than anything else on the market I highly recommend it since it’s low operational cost and easy to replace filters, it also improves the taste of my water so it’s easy to be hiking and not carry water bottles and just get water straight from any water source, I’ve only once had to drink from a stagnant source of water when I went on a 15+ mile hike and I ran out of my regular water, I was a bike skeptical at first but it tasted really good due to the 2nd stage it taste kinda like a water bottle but different I like the taste personally, the bottle is nice and sleek too which I love because it’s easy to transport in my backpack or on my bike, overall 11/10 I plan to buy more of these to give as gifts and to have spares on hand!

A valuable piece of anyone's clean-water gear. Socially laudable company worth supporting!
Pretty cool! Replacement carbon filters *can* be purchased now, they are supposed to last 2.5-3 months before a change. 26 gallons at 1-2 22oz bottles per day is my math.Remember that part of the reason this offering is more expensive than a similar Sawyer product (I got some minis too-different application) is that a portion of their profits go towards delivering water filtration capability to people that really need it. That's more than worth the miniscule markup over the competition if you ask me!Now, that being said I personally feel that the regular lifestraw's utility is limited as anything more than a backup but it is basically unbeatable as a backup. The only stuff you'll find in wild water that can kill you in short order is organisms, unless there's been an industrial accident, and this gets rid of basically all of em'. If virii are a concern where you're going, take appropriate additional precautions, or suffer the consequences. Most places that have a real problem with that, you'll be able to find out ahead of time fairly easily.Anyway so the fibrule filter element in this thing (same as the one in the regular lifestraw) will filter organisms and sediment for a long time as long as you don't freeze it, bang it around too much, and remember to back-flush regularly.Other things you might want to remove from your drinking water are heavy metals and chemical contamination. Also salt, but this does not do that, you need a distiller or a reverse-osmosis machine or other magical things. The carbon filter will remove (by absorption and bonding) most things like pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and a lot of other harmful stuff, things that will not necessarily be removed by distillation, if the contaminant's boiling & condensation points are similar enough to that of water and/or your distiller design prevents their escape/removal whilst gaseous. However, it too will not appreciably remove heavy metals, nor fluoride, and some other stuff (hexavalent chromium is a big one I guess) if you care about those things a lot. Those need the distiller. So, this bottle provides:(1) a readily carried (high quality construction btw, very well made) reservoir of water, that can be collected expeditiously and stored "dirty." That's convenient!(2) Thoroughly tested and provably effective, long lasting physical filtration of biological hazards from the water.(3) Effective and inexpensive removal of organic chemical contamination via the carbon filter.(4) Substantial philanthropic utility at minimal additional cost.If you want this bottle to be a part of a pretty comprehensive filtration system, running distilled water through should pretty much score a royal flush, purity-wise. I am no expert in filtration nor have I tested that claim, but from what I know it should be accurate. Please comment if you feel that is not the case!Don't forget to backflush and change your carbon filters, also read the dang directions and precautions!

High Quality
This gives all the water filtering power of life straw, but with a bottle you can carry around so you dont have to lean over and put your face down by the body of water.

Am in Mexico and loving my Lifestraw!!!
I am in Tulum Mexico 5 days into a 12 day trip around the peninsula and had to write this review to say the Lifestraw is amazing! I take it to any restaurant and fill it with the water they give me with no concerns about whether it’s filtered or tap water - the best thing is that I can put the ice in it too! It’s so hot and humid here and I have to keep reminding myself to drink, drink, drink which is easier to do when the water is cold! So far so good! No Montezumas revenge! Fingers crossed!I purchased both the lifestraw and the Grayl. I purchased the Grayl filter water for washing produce and for drinking with my vitamins and probiotics (difficult to swallow tablets when sipping hard on a straw) but the Lifestraw is the one I am using on my day tripping.Only thing I don’t recommend is that at one restaurant they had water with citrus floating in it so I refilled using that water and the juice in the water made the water in my Lifestraw cloudy the next day and it did have a flavor so I rinsed it out and refilled and it’s back to normal.I will update this review at the end of my trip but for now it’s been a godsend and I am so pleased I bought it with me!Edit: well the Lifestraw went everywhere with me around the Yucatán Peninsula and to Mexico City. No need for bottled water and no issues! We ate everything from food made under an awning on the side of the road in Tulum to market food in Valladolid to tiny restaurants in Merida along with salsas, lettuce, tomato all the things they tell you not to eat and we didn’t get sick once! But we didn’t drink a single sip of water without it going through the Lifestraw. We did drink cocktails at a couple of very good restaurants (Heartwood etc) and some of the beachside resorts in Tulum because restaurants of that caliber and good resorts use filtered water. A lot of the street sellers of water sell bottles but it worried me cause they were in tubs of ice so even the water on the outside of the bottles could be problematic and who knows if the bottles were refilled or not so we purchased them and decanted into our Lifestraw just to be sure! The Grayl was a godsend for water to clean our teeth as the Lifestraw wasn’t any good for that (rinsing the toothbrush etc) also if you stay at an Airbnb and want to make ice or wash produce, the Grayl is the way to go. So it is helpful to have both or buy a large bottle of water somewhere for teeth cleaning etc and use the Lifestraw for all of your drinking water. The Lifestraw was a life saver! Wouldn’t travel without it now!
