The Sony Alpha NEX-6: The Unofficial Quintessential Guide

Truly is the quintessential guide!
I'm an experienced photographer who recently moved from a heavy, bulky SLR system to an NEX 6. I have both the Foster book and this one (don't have the Hendren/Friedman book) and in my opinion this book blows the Foster book away. It truly is the quintessential guide! The overall explanation of how the camera works is very useful, since it's a little different than the SLR. If you're someone who uses the automatic modes in a camera, the first few few chapters will get you going quickly with thorough coverage. If you like to take more control, you're covered in the chapters on program, aperture priority, shutter priority, and manual modes. The chapters on using wifi, adding software to the camera, using flash, using accessories, and making movies are superb. But there are two features that I think make this book a must. The first is the recommendation section at the end of each chapter, where the authors talk about how they use the camera and how they set it up for those uses. You may not want to use their settings, but the discussion of why they are doing what they are doing is enlightening, especially for the customizable control menus. The second feature that is excellent is a complete tabular list of all the control settings on the camera, with all setting options listed. One issue with the NEX 6 is the structure of the control interface, and this section makes it somewhat easier to find the setting you don't use all the time, but know you need to change.I've had the NEX 6 for 9 months and this book for a month. I find I use the book several times a week as a reference. Buy it if you have an NEX 6 or are thinking about getting one. It's essential!

Easy to understand and use as a reference
The Sony Alpha NEX-6 camera is a state of the art photo machine and when I bought it, I wanted to use all of its capabilities. This book is very well written and easy to follow and understand. It also helps when you have the camera in your hand so you can actually use and practice the steps that the book details. If you are new to mirrorless cameras or simply relearning what you may have forgotten about photography (as is my case), then this book is great and a must if you are a new owner of the NEX-6.The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I'm still reading and learning.

An Excellent Accessory For Your NEX-6
I have been an avid photographer for over 30 years. I started with rangefinder 35mm cameras, graduated to SLR's with multiple lenses and finally into digital following the same track. Up until now I used my Nikon D300 but due it's size and weight it remained at home more than I would have liked. After much research I bought a Sony NEX-6 and love it for it's small size, it's light weight and it's picture quality. Due to it's small size there is not a lot of room for controls like the Nikon D300 has, so one needs to learn about all of it's features to get the most out of it. The manual that comes with it is poorly written and meager in detail. The Jerod Foster Sony NEX-6: From Snapshots to Great Shots 1st (first) Edition by Foster, Jerod [2013 ] book is okay if your a beginner but doesn't give you the detail this book gives. Brian Matsumoto writes well, explains the features/capabilities in an easy to understand manner and then gives specific examples where that feature may be helpful, or not! This book elaborates on every feature this camera has including some of the accessories. After you buy a feature laden gem like the NEX-6, you owe it to yourself to get the most out of it.

Improved my ability to use my Sony NEX-6 camera.
Reading this book improved my ability to use my Sony NEX-6 camera. The supplied user's manual included with the camera was confusing and it simply listed the commands and options with little insight on how to use the camera's features. It doesn't put it all together into a set of practical and usable steps. Dr. Brian Matsumoto and Carol F. Roullard's book does. Not only do the authors outline each command and function, but they also organized the book so that the reader is taken from the most automatic commands to the specialized Sony commands, such as sweep panorama. They then discuss how to use the manual settings, such as determining your own white balance or how to override focus and do manual focus. The authors go further and include explanations, helpful tips, and suggestions that have helped me improve how I use the camera. The book covers topics that are not mentioned in the camera manual. For instance, the authors write how the camera can be used on telescopes and microscopes and also be used with virtually any of the older photographic lenses.Another great feature of this book is the appendices, which lists all the commands and error messages. It provides a place where I can quickly find and look up a specific command.

sony nex-6 book/guide
The sony manuals are available on the disc that comes with the camera, but I have always preferred a proper manual. The Nex series of compact cameras will always leave me behind their capability, but the 6 with the EVF brings a slightly more old fashioned approach to picture taking which I was looking for in a digital camera. This book covers everything I might want to do with the camera in a reasonable way, but the complexity of the Sony's menus and options means that even with this guide there is a long way to go to achieve a good level of ease with it

NEX-6 Unoficial guide
Very good book . closely relates to the NEX-6 and explains usage in great detail. I would highly recommend it in addition to the user manual.

Extremely helpful guide
I bought this kindle book to help me better understand the Sony NEX 6 which I bought to replace a Nikon D7000. I've also got the Gary Friedman book and there's not a lot to choose between them - they're both very good - although I slightly prefer the way this one is laid out in my Kindle. The guide covers all aspects of the camera's features and use and is very comprehensive. It's clearly written and is useful as both an interesting read and as a reference tool once you've read it.

情報量が多い
海外のガイドブックは、大体、情報量が多い印象です。用紙版の価格は、知りませんが、キンドル版は、とても安いですね。得してる印象です。問題は、外国語なので、読むのに時間がかかります。

informative.
Worth the purchase. Lots of information. It is worth spending the money unless you know a lot about cameras or want to spend lots of time playing around with the settings.
