A Stunning Finale!
"Extinction" is the sixth and final novel of the outstanding "The Remaining" series. It was published in 2015.At the end of book five of the series--"Allegiance"--we are left with a glimmer of hope that perhaps Lee and his newfound allies will come up with some daring plan to defeat the monster horde headed their way. And daring this book is! All of Lee's hard work and hard-won battles come to a head in this smashing conclusion. While I found the last couple of books to be a little slower in pace than the early books in the series, "Extinction" ratchets the breathless action back up to 110%. I simply could not wait to get to the end and see how it all ends for the characters we've come to know and care about.Author D.J. Molle wraps up the loose ends nicely into a satisfying conclusion. However, the reader should not expect to find by the end of the novel that the world has been restored to normality as we know it, but rather that the series finds a good stopping point and ends on a high note. I would not be disappointed if Molle were to revisit this series in the future, because there are certainly more stories to be told, but for now, the series is ended. Characterization is also wrapped up neatly; the transformation that takes place in the characters over the course of the six books comes full circle and is completed in "Extinction."Looking back at all the novels in the series, I can't say I've enjoyed many series as much as I've enjoyed "The Remaining." I certainly can't recommend the series enough and would implore you to check it out. I hope the brave exploits of Captain Lee Harden and the survivors of Camp Ryder continue to intertain and inspire for years to come.NOTE: D.J. Molle has now released the first book in a new series that continues the story from The Remaining, and the novel is entitled "Harden."

Exciting end to a well-written series.
It is difficult to say very much without giving too much away. It is best to avoid reviews before reading a book. Instead rely on the author's reputation and a book's star rating when choosing a book. Then once you have read the book read the details of reviews. That said, this has been an exciting and well-written series. Generally, I am not particularly fond of a post-apocalyptic theme as it is depressing and seems to hit too close to home these days. However, from the beginning this series provided a worthy protagonist to embrace and through which we navigate the treacherous new conditions. I have no military experience however the author seems to have adequate knowledge to present military information that feels authentic. This element has provided gratifying substance to this story. Of special note is how this author successfully writes from different points of view. We experience this world through survivors, heroes, villains, adults, children, and victims.I didn't know this would be the last book in the series and it wasn't until the very end that I understood. I think this story could have gone on indefinitely. Yet having finished the book I feel an end is due. In this finale we were treated to Captain Harden coming back in full force. This is one of the most exciting books in the series. There are many well-written sequences bringing resolution and closure. Several characters undergo profound realizations and personal triumphs. The author doesn't attempt to provide every answer or tie up every loose end. We know the fight carries on but the tide has been turned and we can see they have a realistic chance to survive and build a Reunited States. I am satisfied with this ending but I will miss reading of Lee Harden, a great protagonist. In a similar vein, I would not take away points because I enjoyed a performance so much I wished it had not ended or because a song I had hoped to hear was not played.NOTE: I am grateful that the author did not write this final book for those who have not read the previous books in the series. This book provides just enough refresher information to remind us of where the most recent book in the series left off. This is a very wise choice IMO as it is always detrimental to the pace of a book when all of the background is reiterated for newcomers. Hopefully people will be able to gather just how good this series is and be patient enough to begin reading it at the beginning.

Have you ever read a series so good, so compelling
Have you ever read a series so good, so compelling, you never wanted it to end? Well this series was it for me. I wish the series kept going, but all good things must come to an end. I told myself I'd read this one slower, just to make the experience last longer, but I couldn't do that. Once I started there was no way I could stop.I can say this one was by far the most thrilling out of all the books. I literally was hanging off my seat almost the entire time I was reading. I don't know how D.J. Molles was able to pull so many emotions out of me at one time or how with a snap of my fingers I wanted to toss the book across the room. That's how you know you're reading a great book. This series was out of my normal reading material, but I'm so glad I picked them up. Lee's story and how he continues his mission when all else seems lost, is truly amazing. I've never read a character before like Lee. He never gives up. Ever. He pushes himself way beyond the limit all for the sake of his mission. I loved it.All I can say is, read it. I really can't explain how else these series is just that good. I recommend at least trying it out because I know I couldn't stop once I read the first page of the first book. I hate it ended, but I'm hoping maybe we see more of Lee in the future.

Great end to a great series
**MINOR SPOILERS**Although this is a review for The Remaining: Extinction, it can also be taken as a review of the series as well.Really enjoyed this, but as others have mentioned, I think the story is far from concluded in my opinion. The characters have all completed their arcs as such, but I'd like to know more about other pockets of resistance around the US.One thing I'd say about the series is it's hard to imagine the areas he's referring to, but a Google map search allowed me to get a feel for the key locations that I could properly pinpoint. I'd have also liked things to go reasonably well just once ......Well worth buying for your Kindle - I managed to read through the whole series in one holiday.

Excellent conclusion - but I want more
This is a fine conclusion. No syrupy finish, but pain and resolve and stoicism to the end. This book is better than the last instalment and I couldn't put it down. There were a couple of "OMG" moments, where I was gutted by the actions of certain individuals. They should know better than to pi$$ off Lee.This should be an epic TV series. Come on Amazon, commission it!DJ Molles - don't give me any of that "last one in the series" nonsense. Get on with book 7! There is lots to still sort out before North Carolina is safe to take picnics in.

The best series.
Superb series by D J Molles. I am sad now that this is the last book in the series as I have enjoyed reading the story and finding out about each character. I would highly recommend this series to anyone wanting to read a good book. On a good note, I can re read them all over again now.

A gripping end
Enjoyed the last (?) installment of this series. Maybe some loose ends to sort out for the story's sake, but found it a page turner & really rooting for the characters. If this is the last book in the series, well, so be it. But I (and I think fans) just want a little more.
