Can the "rechargable" option still function while plugged into the wall? Meaning the battery is depleated and I still need to use the pump.

No... I will not work..!! Actually, first time I had to charge it for like 48 hours to get the pump running.

How man amps does this pump require?

I have a similar unit to this and it pulls ~12 amps when starting the motor (at 12V) and 6 amps running. If you're wondering about another model (like the 120V version), add a comment to clarify.
