These towels are Softspun at their best
Softspun is one of the better Indian microfibre brands and I say that as a professional detailer that knows the differences between good and bad microfibre and has in his collection many microfibre brands, both Indian and foreign. When you buy Softspun, you buy a good product; there's no doubting or second guessing yourself.Other great Indian brands are Posh and Poshlyf. Those two brands are slightly better quality but also more expensive. You also have Maxoshine which is equal with Softspun and then Sobby which I'd rank just below. Softspun is the sweet spot of price and quality among all those options. I will leave out other good brands such as ShineXPro and Wavex because of their limited and overpriced range of products; I can't recommend them while we have all those other superb options I mentioned.About these towels; some other review here said this is not 380 gsm and it's too thin. Well, they're wrong. According to my calculations using the given weight/dimensions; these towels are in fact a little more than 380 GSM and look/feel that way too. In any case, I have always found Softspun products to meet the advertised claims/descriptions, unlike many other brands on Amazon India which use lies and false marketing to sell their products.I've been using them since more than a year and have been satisfied. I've used them to both wash cars and to dry them. While washing, the fibres have great grip/bite, pick up all the dirt and leave nothing behind. While drying, they have good absorbency but don't glide well on the paint. It's not a specialised drying towel and it's best to keep twisting/wringing the excess water from the towel as you work your way around the car. They are also good for waterless/rinseless washing and the thick high pile fibres are long enough to trap and hold dirt away from the paint. Do not use anything lower than 400 GSM for washing and especially waterless/rinseless washing; for inexperienced users, it is already a risky method of washing cars and you really need a 400 to 900 GSM towel with plush long fibres to prevent scratching. These towels are also perfect for all your car interior cleaning needs. My heart would never allow me to use such soft and beautiful towels for the wheels/tyres but once they get too old and worn out for the paintwork, they would be good at that job too.I believe these are the only Softspun towels advertised as being a 70/30 polyester/polyamide blend and the performance backs up that claim. Most towels from most brands are usually an 80/20 blend but that doesn't mean 80/20 blend towels are bad. An 80/20 blend of high quality Korean microfibre from a reputed brand would be better than a 70/30 blend of cheap Chinese fibre from a generic brand. 70/30 absorbs/wipes better while 80/20 cleans/polishes better, so don't be confused by the blends and numbers. It doesn't matter for most users in most cases, as long as you buy from reputed brands.I have brand new towels to compare my regularly used ones with; and I'd say the used ones still have 50% of their original softness/absorbency after a year of heavy use and machine washes. If you're just using them on your own car, they should last a year but in a professional setting, I'd not use them on customers' paint past the 2-3 month mark. They're great when new but lose performance a bit too fast for professional detailers. I have both the 40x40cm and 60x40cm sizes and prefer the smaller ones; the larger ones are great for large flat surfaces like the roof but less easy to use in tight areas like door handles or the front of the car with all the grills/vents/holes. They might also drag on the dirty ground when trying to reach the lower areas of the car.The colours are unique and beautiful, especially the sky blue, brown and black ones. Always buy microfibre in light and bright colours; helps you see when it's getting dirty and needs a rinse or when tiny rocks/debris get stuck within the fibres, which will scratch the paint; use the darker colours for wheels/engine bay/other dirty areas.I like these towels and I store them in the same box as my expensive foreign towels. Definitely some of Softspun's best work. They are best suited for wet washing the paint but are not the best for drying or buffing after polishing because I have noticed they shed some lint on the paint. They have also relaunched these 380 GSM towels as a 760 GSM model with two key differences; firstly, the 380 has the long pile fibres for washing/drying/buffing on only one side with the other side being a shorter pile for scrubbing/polishing. The new 760 model has the long fibres on both sides.Secondly, there is a difference in the construction of the 380 and 760; the 380 has a solid backing cloth between the two sides and almost every microfiber towel in the world is made this way. But the 760 does not have this backing cloth for some reason; think of the 760 as two fluffy 380 GSM sides stitched together; it's like a pillowcase with no pillow in it and the edges just stitched together; totally hollow; I prefer the solidity of the 380 and feel they made the wrong decision in making the 760 that way. Here are my tips to get the best results from these towels and also to take care of all your microfibre products and keep them in good condition:1) Always wash new microfiber products before using them for the first time. No detergent; only water; there is usually lint/dye/residue left over from the manufacturing process and you'll see how much the water changes colour.2) When used as a drying towel, it's always good to start with the towel slightly damp and not fully dry. Microfibre just works better that way. The only times you would use a dry microfibre towel is to apply or remove wax/compound/polish/sealants or if you're already using a drying aid such as spray wax to lubricate the paint surface while you dry the car. If not using any lubrication/spray wax while drying, then definitely dampen the towel. The reason is that dry fibres have a higher chance of causing scratches than damp soft fibres. Most of the micro scratches on paint happen during the washing and drying process. You can dip the drying towel into clean water, then twist/wring as dry as possible and then start drying with it. Or just spray/mist the towel with water, spray wax or your waterless wash solution. The aim is to minimise scratches while drying.Never rub the towel hard on the paint. Fold the towel twice or thrice into a nice thick pad. Then gently wipe the car in straight lines and never in circles. Do not use any pressure. Lightly guide the towel under your palm and let its weight do the work. Keep switching to a fresh side of the towel and keep wringing out the excess water as it gets wetter.3) These towels are very easy to clean. If not very dirty, you can hand rinse them or quickly machine wash with only water. Use detergent only for dirty/stained microfibre. Do not use powdered detergent or fabric softeners; use only liquid detergent with no added fabric softeners in it. Any liquid laundry detergent is fine but I'll still recommend the Wavex microfiber detergent; good Indian product and the one litre bottle will last you a long time. It's best for your microfibre to use detergent as less as possible and mostly just wash in cool/warm water. Never wash/mix microfibre with any other clothes; always keep it separate from all other fabrics.4) If you feel your microfibre products have lost some of their softness and absorbency, then soak and wash them by hand in a bucket or in the machine with warm/hot water and 1-2 teacups of any cheap white vinegar, depending on how many microfibres you're washing. Do not add detergent, only the vinegar; then do a final water rinse to remove the vinegar; it's a great way to remove old buildup from your microfibre and make it soft and absorbent again.5) Do not wash pads/towels used for polishing/waxing with your other washing/drying/cleaning microfibres. The polish will coat your other towels and make them less soft/effective.6) Never wash towels used for tyres/wheels with those used for the paint/body/interior. The metal and brake dust particles from wheels will contaminate your other clean paint/interior towels and cause scratches in the paint.7) Always try to clean/wash dirty microfibre pads/towels as soon as possible; if you can't, then atleast leave them soaking in a bucket with liquid detergent until you have time to wash; the aim is to not allow any wax/polish/dirt to dry/harden into the microfibre; more difficult to clean once that happens.8) To wash pads/towels used for polish/wax, soak them in a hot water bucket with liquid detergent and repeatedly squeeze/scrub/rub them thoroughly against each other with your hands or use a toothbrush. Your hands and the towels should be underwater in the detergent while scrubbing/cleaning so make sure the water is not too hot for your hands. But you need heat to break up and melt the polish/wax off the fibres so make it as hot as you can. Once you're satisfied with your scrubbing, squeeze out the pads/towels and then rinse them well in another bucket of hot or cool water; or just toss it in the washing machine for the final rinse after the first hot water scrubbing you did. You could also do the whole wash in the machine with hot water but it will not clean as well as doing it manually yourself.9) Never dry your washed microfibre in direct sunlight or at high temperatures in the washing machine dryer. Do not iron. Do not wash in water hotter than 60°C (that's the temperature in most home water heaters). Extreme heat will destroy microfibre. If it's too hot for your skin, then it's too hot for your microfiber.Sorry for the long read but I've been doing this since years and love to share my experiences/learning with those who might be looking for it. All the detailed information is given in the pictures.Overall this particular cloth pack of 4 pieces is 380gsm on one side and lesser between (200-300 gsm) on the other side that means one side is for absorbing water and other is for general buffing.
