The Handy Bag Opener

I liked that it was as advertised. I have only used it once and it worked as described. One possible negative point is that the bag will rip if it gets too heavy for the ring to hold. The first bag was about 2/3 full and the ring held, but not sure I could put more in. Will have to test it with a full bag of trash and see how it does.

There is a bungee cord loop around the opening that holds the bag in place. It does a good job griping the bag even when it gets heavy. My kids use this too. Pare this with an extended grabber and you are all set.

This bag ring has been used for 150 hours to pick up litter, and it has carried out 900 pounds of litter from the streets, trails, and parks, so far.I use 13-gallon kitchen trash bags with this bag holder. Any larger trash bag will drag on the ground and will slip out of the holder when it goes over the weight limit. This holder comfortably holds weights up to around 11ish pounds (a 13-gallon kitchen bag is meant to hold around 8 pounds of garbage) and then the bag will very slowly begin to slip out of the holder. At around 15ish pounds the bag will fully come out of the holder, but at that much weight in a 13-gallon bag the bag will be ripping and disintegrating anyways unless you double-bagged. If you use drawstring bags, you can loop the drawstring around the handle and that adds extra security. Double-bagging is also possible, which increases the structural integrity of your bags if you're anticipating extra weight.I haven't seen any evidence of damage to the ring, even though the edge is often whacked with a metal grabber in attempts to dislodge sticky bits of litter. There are still no cracks or anything. I bought a second one just in case, but I've not needed it yet.Highly recommended.

Way overpriced for what it is. I used it for two years and it did okay. The handle is flimsy and awkward (facing wrong direction!) and a lot of times I ended up holding it by the ring itself just to keep the opening facing up.Tell you what folks, get you a 5-gallon bucket (4 bucks at blue or orange store), a scrap of 2x4, couple of 3/8” lag screws with washers, and a bungee cord. Cut out the bottom of the bucket, fashion a handle, and you have a MUCH better bag holder. Should have done this initially.

I am part of a litter pickup team in the Pittsburgh area - and I cannot even say how much i have appreciated this gizmo. Takes about a minute to get the bag attached to the ring... after which the ring obligingly holds the bag open while I pick up trash (using a grabber, and gloves) and move it into the held-open bag. I am sure there are other uses for the Handy Bag Opener - -but that's mine!!!

I have only used this one time so cant address durability but it worked well and made trash collection MUCH easier.
