Blue Sea Systems e-Series Battery Switch Selector 4 Position, 32V DC, 325A Red, 9001e

This is the perfect switch I need to add the second battery to my pontoon boat. Strong lugs and easy to mount securely. Slots make it easy to route the cables cleanly, too.

Used these on the solar system in my travel trailer. Works great to isolate and test / charge batteries individually.

Excellent product. After having long thought that Perko was the gold standard in marine accessories, I took a chance and changed brands when the sea air had finally given my battery switch all it could take. I am very happy with my choice. Functionally, they are all pretty much the same. The difference for me was, since the unit is open on all 4 sides and not just the bottom, routing your wires is very easy. The switch is also physically easier to turn than the one I took out ( which is good on those bad arthritis pain days).

First thing I did when I bought a boat is install a second battery because a dead battery on the water is both likely, and extremely problematic. Or worse. If you've shopped for marine battery switches you've seen the "other" brand. The big round, surface-mounted one. Then you see this one and think, "it's just so small" or "how does it mount to my boat?" I took the leap of faith and couldn't be more pleased with the results. My first consideration was accessibility. I didn't want the switch to be buried inside a compartment that would make access difficult while on the water. That way I could easily switch between batteries when we're fishing, using the downriggers and playing music, and back to when we're running the main engine. The smaller size and flush-mounting capability of the Blue Sea switch were definite advantages in that regard. My other consideration was the power handling capacity of the switch, especially because of its smaller size. A quick look at the published specs shows continuous, intermittent and cranking ratings of 350A, 600A, and 2,000A respectively. Way more than needed for my application. Another bonus is the "make before break" design that keeps all of my electronics alive as I switch between batteries. I never switch with the main engine running. I invested another 10 bucks in a hole saw and drilled a hole in the battery compartment facing the cockpit, then installed the switch flush to the carpeted front face. Bolted it in with new stainless hardware, terminated the batteries and not only is it functional, but it also looks great. No telling about long-term reliability at this point, but I'm glad I opted for the built-in look and accessibility of this switch.

The switch works great, but needs to be protected from rain during the winter. Water builds up on the face of the switch and freezes it. It doesn't seem to hurt the switch, but you can't change the position of the switch until the ice melts.

Go for this switch you won't be disappointed! It looks great, is very well built and functions properly. There are 2 caveats: 1) This switch is very large, the face size is 3 5/8" - so if you are planning on the "flush mount" or "rear mount" option, you will need a smooth-cut 3 5/8 hole, which is a rare hole saw size, so you'll probably want to order one of those at the same time. 2) It doesn't come with mounting hardware. I used 1/4" marine grade nuts/bolts/washers. I did the flush mount option and I used 1 1/2" bolts which were a touch on the small side for flush-mounting. I would recommend 1/4 x 1 1/2" bolts for front mounting and 1/4 x 2" for flush-mounting. Upon installation and first use I was extremely happy. Jammed the stereo with sub-woofers for over 2 hours on the lake in position "2". Attempted to start the boat in position "2" - click-click. Switched to "1" and she popped right off! Exactly as intended! I have yet to be 100% sure that it recharged both batteries in 1+2 mode, but it really must.

I don't give out 5 stars (in 1-5 system) often (1st time actually). This is a very high quality battery switch that can mount in the "Perko" or "Guest" lower amperage switch mounting holes if replacing older equipment. This switch is built to last a lifetime. If you are adding the switch because you want a second battery for backup you can rest assured because that's essentially why I got it (peace of mind in case I used too much juice forgetting to start main motor for charge). The amperage ratings are very good. 2000A/10 sec. 1000A/60 sec. 600A/intermittent 5 min. and 350A/continuous. It's rated for up to 32 volts, and in addition to it's CE/UL/ABYC/meeting requirements its IP66 protected against powerful water jets... If you are considering the cheaper switches available, don't, they won't last as long as this one. I had never heard of blue sea before this purchase last week, my review is based on what I received when I ordered this switch and saw the quality I received at an affordable price. There is nothing to dislike, and I would highly recommend (and have) to anyone looking for a battery switch that switches between batteries. If installing new like I am, plan to have room for about a 3 5/8" hole for back mount or 3 7/8" to mount on surface. Holes are designed for 1/4 inch bolts/machine screws.
