Review: The least expensive, most accurate titration kit for the price - This product should not be reviewed as a toy. That said, for about two months now, I've been hard at work researching and learning about test kits for spa water chemistry. I've had several different test setups; three different manufacture's strips, a digital test strip reader and a DPD color comparison kit. This is the fourth setup I've purchased for the purpose of testing spa water for chlorine. The package is a very nice compact package. As in the sales picture, the test kit consists of a blue storage box, instruction sheet, graduated test cylinder with plastic cap and several bottles of test reagent. The test is straight forward. Put a couple measured scoops of DPD powder in the test cylinder and add test reagent by the drop. Count the drops, multiply by 0.20 and voila, you have your ppm count. It takes a few trial runs to get use to the test procedure. Once you're use to the test procedure, plan on about five minutes to complete procedure. Accurate to within 0.10 ppm. A call to customer support set me on the straight and narrow. Very nice support group at Taylor Technologies. I found my other gear isn't even close to what the results of the Taylor K-1515-A test kit were. The other tests were so far off, the results make me wonder. I'll see about picking up an EPA certified test strip for commercial water testing for comparison purposes. All this means is that the EPA has certified the accuracy of the the test strips. Being certified by the EPA is not equivalent to being EPA approved. It just means that test strip company has submitted proof of the accuracy of their claims for a registration number. This way I'll have a final comparator to the results provided by the Taylor K-1515-A chlorine test kit. Overall, my first impressions are, this is a straight forward test kit with no whistles or bells. It is a test kit for free chlorine (FC) and combined chlorine (CC) and nothing more. At this time and point, I have no reason to think this kit isn't as accurate as the manufacture claims. If I find out any differently when I get the other strips in for comparison purposes, or find need to add to this review, I'll stop by and amend my comments accordingly. In the meantime, I feel comfortable highly recommending this product. Hope the above helps.

**Q: Is this test for available chlorine AND combined chlorine?  i cant find a straightforward description. Ty.**
A: This test is for total chlorine and combined chlorine. The formula would be TC-CC=FC which means that if from your first reading you subtract the combined chlorine reading, you will get the amount of free chlorine in your pool. CC should not be more than 0.2 ppm.

**Q: Can you test for Bromine using this kit?**

**Q: Can you test for Bromine using this kit?**
A: No, the K-1515-A and C kits are for chlorine. The K-1517-A and C kits are the comparable ones for bromine.

**Q: What if I need to test for Chlorine up to 28ppm? Is there a kit that will test that high?**

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Why did I not get this sooner?

I originally purchased test strips form my pool. Having given up I reviewed all the available kits. Based on professional presentation and local availablility I went with the K-2005. While I found it to be a decent kit, I still had trouble with out of range chlorine readings. Enter Taylor's K-1515 FAS-DPD test kit. I can look back at my last OTO test and decide if I want 0.2 or 0.5 ppm precision (or if I'm going long .. > 5 ppm). I no longer need to squint at a color bar that is hard to differentiate 1.5 ppm to 2 ppm and 3 ppm to 5 ppm. I no longer need to add distilled water when I am supershocking the pool. This kit takes away the guess work out. The only consideration I would have is kit K-1515-C comes with 2x 2oz bottles of titrant. On gut feeling I have purchased an extra bottle of titrant so I am not paying extra to ship more in the spring. I'll update this at the end of next season to see how long the 22mL bottle lasts. Taylor FAS-DPD Titrating Reagent (Chlorine) 2 oz R-0871-C Taylor K-1515-C- Drop Test, FAS-DPD Chlorine, 1 drop = 0.2 or 0.5 ppm (2 oz) (for reference) I can get the other reagent locally if needed (R-0003), the FAS-DPD powder and titrant I have only found online. UPDATE AUG-2012: I have this to say .. the powder and the R-0871-C bottle will just make the year mark together. Seems to be the right combination. Additionally the R-0870-I container is something special. The inside of the container is desiccant coated to prevent moisture contamination. A fresh container should be near white on the inside. After a year or so of use, it will turn dark. When that happens, the desiccant has done its job .. do yours and get a fresh supply of powder. Also consider the Taylor 9265 Speedstir . Makes all of the titrant drop tests quick and easy. :)
