Dechra Miconahex + Triz Shampoo, 16-Ounce

We have had several disasters where our 80 pound very active senior lab begins to stink, itches, hair falls out on her back, ears get infected and she licks her paws. I have to think she is in complete itching agony. It seems to happen over a short period of time after the first bad odor begins. Off to the vet and back with daily pills, ear drops, shampoo, and a $500 bill plus follow-ups. I also tried the powdered food additive that is supposed to help eliminate the aforementioned but I don't think it helped much if at all. Her latest episode was a super disaster. In addition to the previous symptoms her armpits, belly, and groin became inflamed. Finally, the vet settled on the MiconaHex+Triz shampoo. While I like to support my local vet I find the shampoo here to be about 1/2 the cost from the vet. I followed the shampoo directions and gave her a shower bath daily for 5 days then every other day for 10 days. I could see positive results after about the first 3 days and she was feeling better too. After the 15 days and 10 baths she was looking pretty good, stink eliminated and itching and paw licking/chewing basically eliminated. I then shifted to every 5 days for a couple of weeks and now I'm at once every 10 days. My shower/bath plan is as follows. I used our small zero clearance walk-in shower with a shower wand on an 8 foot very flexible extension hose. The shampoo plan I use is wet her down, apply the MiconaHex + Triz Shampoo, from the (removed) colar area to her tail and beyond. I put another amount in my hand and split it up with half for the underside front leg (armpits) and the other half for the back groin area. Then I work the shampoo through the hair then add just enough water to really work up a good lather in all areas and work it into the hair in all areas. I take each paw and work lather through the pads, web, and toes. I then start the 10-minute timer but really keep working the lather into the hair and hinterland areas since that seems to help keep her calm(er). Then a good rinse, towel dry (actually 3 towels), and a little blow-dry. Figure that is about $80 per shampoo at the groomer if they are willing to be as detailed as I am. It is now about 60 days and the hair on her back is well grown in, there is no stink, scratching is normal, paw licking is normal, head shaking because her ears itch is normal. I'm washing her about every 10 days and still giving her the powder additive just because it might help and she likes it. That extra cost of the additive over the expense of her food is about $1.00 per day. I might shift shampooing out to once every 12-15 days, but I really do not want to take any chances of this skin condition returning.

Are 4 year old English golden retriever has had like little bits on his skin around his neck, back and side for the better part of 2 years. When I would take him to his Vet the Vet would always say it was grass fleas or little bits he was getting from rolling in the grass. Sometimes they would go away and other times they were very noticeable and would get crusty. Fast forward to about 3 months ago and we started noticing he was shedding a lot more I mean a lot we noticed his fur was a lot more oilier and he was beginning to stink. I would bathe him with his shampoo that I had been using since he was born and for the first time it was not working. He was still shedding his skin was still very flaky like dandruff and he still had a strong odor. So off to the Vet for a check up. After a thorough exam he was diagnosed with Seborrhea Dermatitis and bacterial yeast infection in his ears which is very common in golden retrievers so I was told.I was given a prescription bottle of Anti fungal & Antibacterial Chlorhexidine Shampoo for Dogs & Cats and was told to shampoo him 3 times a week for a month and to use the prescription ear drops and ear wash for one month to clear up the ear infection. After a month I took Kody back in for a check up and was told he was much better and that his ears still had a little wax build up and the flaps were still a little red and itchy. As for the skin and his coat the vet said he still had a little odor and he was still shedding and his coat would get oily in about 2 days. I personally did not think we were making a hole lot of progress for being on this regiment for over a month. So I went on line and started reading about what was going on with my fur baby and after days of reading and searching for answers I came across this Dechra Miconahex + Triz Pet Shampoo I read all of the reviews and thought what the heck lets give it a try and boy am I glad I did and so is Kody. Please keep in mind that I was using the other medicated shampoo for a little over a month when I started using the Miconahex. I noticed a difference IMMEDIATELY!!! I followed the instructions which say to leave it on once he is thoroughly covered and lathered up for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes rinse thoroughly and towel dry. I have shampooed him a total of 3 times and I don't know who's happier me or him. His coat is soft like a 1 year old, no more flaking, no more dandruff, no more terrible smell, hardly any shedding and itching and he is going over a week in between bath's. We head back to his Vet next week, I can't wait to let her see Kody and how much progress he has made. I know This will be a on going thing of having to bathe him but that's alright I would do anything in the world for are baby. Thank you Miconahex

I am a recently retired veterinarian with 26 years experience in small animal medicine. Recently, a friend's dog developed a skin irritation due to contact with grasses and weeds during the spring and summer (commonly called a contact dermatitis). I know professionally that irritation quickly can become a bacterial skin infection or less likely, a yeast infection of the skin especially if the pet is licking and chewing the affected areas of skin which pretty much always happens. Since, I have no access to veterinary products at the moment I went to a national, corporate veterinary chain that is owned by a candy company! Yes, the infamous 'Banfield'!!! They would not sell me this shampoo because they called it a 'prescription'. BULL! They wanted nearly $200 to 'diagnose' before they would sell me this shampoo. When I told the receptionist who clearly would rather not be helping me that I was a veterinarian, she wasn’t impressed! My advise: Lather this shampoo into your dog's (or cat’s) coat paying attention to the groin (inguinal) and arm pits (axillae) and all of the obvious problem areas like the tail head (the butt near the tail), and leave on for at least 15 minutes. Then rinse well with tepid water. Use every 2 days for the first week then back off to every 3-4 days as needed. Note: in my experience the most common cause of skin irritations are fleas and the secondary self-trauma caused by scratching and digging. Dogs and cats will dig, chew and bite at the fleas and flea bites incessantly. Very quickly the skin becomes irritated and a secondary bacterial infection results which is always extremely itchy in and of itself and a vicious cycle ensues. If your pet has fleas, you must treat the pet, any other pets in the house including cats that go outside (called vectors because they bring fleas in from outside and share with everyone) and treat your home. The best product for the home that I have found is a spray called Knockout made by Virbac and it is for sale on Amazon. The extra strength lasts in the home for up to 6 months and it is safe for birds and fish about 24 hours after application (read the can thoroughly). Those of you who take your dogs in your cars and trucks, treat with Knockout there too as your dog will shed flea eggs there as well. If no improvement get to a trusted veterinarian who may or may not be 'corporate' (preferably not). If your veterinarian wants to give your dog prednisone for itch, decline! Prednisone is a horrible drug and can have lasting effects on your dogs adrenal glands and liver. It will make your dog eat a lot, drink a lot and urinate a lot. Some dogs actually become aggressive on prednisone. Instead, request a medication called Apoquel, or, in the alternative Temaril-P which blends only 2mg of prednisone and an antihistamine. Both of the aforementioned drugs are for dogs only. With cats a methylprednisolone (depomedrol) injection will take care if the itch while flea control is instituted. It is safe in cats and fixes the itch for up to two weeks. In both dogs and cats concomitant antibiotic treatment may be required. Also, while your pet is being treated for skin problems, put on an Elizabeth collar (Aka: cone of shame) or one of the donut-type blow-up collars that go around your dog or cat’s neck to prevent it from being able to reach its body with a it’s mouth, causing more damage, more lesions and more itch! my dog has very sensitive skin, food intolerances, yeast overgrowth and heavy itching that leads to hot spots. The vet recommended a chlorhexidine shampoo and i opted for this one because of the 5 star overall rating, and let me tell you, it is has lived up to my expectations. WORTH IT. My dogs skin is usually red and itchy but he had some relief after just one wash. Follow the directions to get results! I massaged him for a full 10 minutes with the shampoo, getting all areas, especially armpits and inner thighs and belly where his skin is most irritated. This also comes in a spray that works for just quick superficial treatments. My plan is to wash 2x a week and see how it goes then taper down to once a week, and then once every few weeks while substituting a full bath with the spray version as needed. SO GLAD I TRIED THIS. GREAT FOR DOGS WITH YEASTY SKIN! I know my dogs itching is related to yeast because he gets yeasty smelly ear infections. Unrelated to this product but yeast and skin issues are usually related to diet as well. And I was mislead into thinking carbs in the diet leads to yeast so he was on a zero carb diet, but has intolerance to chicken. Apparently food intolerances can also cause inflammation and somehow support yeast even without carbs. I dont fully understand the physiology, all i know is that he had no carbs and still had yeast issues. I swapped his diet from raw/fresh to "Purina Pro Plan Sensitive skin and Stomach" of all things along with this shampoo, and he's had no diarrhea and is actually eating breakfast, which is crazy because he's SO PICKY. So the shampoo definitely works! But you also want to try and address the underlying cause so youre not battling skin microbes for life. Heres to hoping the diet change will seal the deal!

First bottle I purchased was at our Vet. Looked on amazon and found it nearly half the price for a larger bottle! Our Pug has allergies, skin issues, and yeast. This does give her some relief in combination with her meds along with coconut oil. It really softens her coat nicely! I would suggest only buying it from the seller "Dechra" as it is their product not a third party. I am not a compensated reviewer. Update 3-4-2017: We are now on our 3rd bottle of this shampoo! We had to take our Pug to a Dermatology Vet and they said to bathe her 1-2 per week and let her soak for ten minutes each time. We average once per week and spray her with Dechra's Miconahex + Triz Spray every day on the affected areas. Happy to say, Annie's skin issues have cleared up and no more gnawing or constant scratching! We will now bathe her every couple weeks and spray her every couple of days. Spring is approaching so the baths may increase if an issue pops up but so far so good! It is a blessing to see her & us get some relief from her skin issues. My best advice is if your pet has skin & allergy issues skip the regular vet and find a Vet Dermatologist!! Your regular Vet will experiment on your money, and extend your pets suffering. First try this shampoo method 1-2 per week and spray it everyday. Good luck & be patient

I have a Golden Retriever and for years I have been going to the vet for her chronic itching, biting her paws and ear infections. At the vet, I heard, "Oh, it's allergies" - "she needs special food" -"it's a grass allergy", "She needs this expensive food", "she needs steroids" - and the list goes on! Money, money and more money. Finally, my dog got a urinary tract infection and her normal vet was unable to see her so I took her to a new vet. The other vet examined her and made this statement to me, "She has yeast infection in her ears, the same yeast is on her paws and that yeast has caused urinary tract infection." I was sent home with pills and ointments for her ears to clear up everything. Then I started to research yeast in dogs. My dog is extremely yeasty. She has an extremly thick coat, she is very large so there is a lot of moisture on her skin. Perfect for large yeast quantities. I read about this shampoo. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I shampooed her, used a soft bath brush to brush it down to her skin, left it on for 10 minutes, rinsed it off. No itching, biting of paws for two weeks! Ears nice and pink, not red. I kept her on a two week bath schedule with this shampoo and she has no problems now. I also brought the spray. I spray it on a paper towel and wipe her ears twice a week. Her ears are so much better. The colony of yeast on her body is being kept down and controlled with this stuff. With my particular dog, I need to continue this shampoo/ear wipe routine every two to three weeks for maintenance but doing this routine is so much better than watching her suffer. If you have these problems with your Golden or other dog, it is worth a try for you. It has been the solution for me.

I have never written a review on Amazon but rely on others reviews to make purchasing decisions. After reading the incredible reviews on this product, I shelled out the money hoping for a miracle...This product delivered just that. After spending thousands of dollars at the vet and having my poor corgi on repeated cycles of antibiotics, prednisone, immunotherapy treatment, and anti-itch shots, this shampoo helped dramatically at a fraction of the cost while those other treatments were temporary at best. According to our pet allergist, the cycle has to be broken to treat your pet permanently. What happens is something causes an allergic reaction -either food or environmental, they scratch causing wounds that cause bacterial and fungal infections to cause localized infections and swelling. They then scratch even more and spread the infection. If they have an active infection, they need to be treated. This product breaks the cycle by preventing the spread of the infection. It is the only shampoo I found with an effective anti fungal and antibacterial element. It has a pleasant neutral coconut scent that is gentle on their scent and doesn't cause drying or irritation. Within two sessions, I could finally sleep again. No more pacing and scratching in the middle of the night. I use the product every other day..Yes bathing your dog two or three times a week is a pain but after two weeks, the improvement was so dramatic that I can bath her once a week. Her fur has grown back, there are no more scales, or redness. We have tried everything and this is the only product that helps.

This is a fantastic, medical grade, effective shampoo for dogs who have any type of skin issues. My dog has a couple of serious medical conditions that, unfortunately, cause dry flaky skin. They also make him more susceptible to infections of any kind, so his already compromised skin, plus a skin infection, is miserable for him. Recently he has acquired a yeast infection in between his paws, in his facial folds, and in other areas on his body, in addition to his existing poor skin and coat quality. I have the Dechra Trizclor shampoo and treatment line, but it wasn't fully getting rid of the yeast issues. A dog mom friend recommended this Dechra Miconahex + Triz shampoo, and it has made a wonderful difference. It is professional grade, and sold by vets, but usually at prices around twice what Amazon sells it for. This shampoo is opaque, almost milky. It is smooth and easy to rinse. After you apply it to your dog and work up a good lather, you need to leave it on for 5-10 minutes. Even in warmer temperatures it may be difficult for a dog to stand still for that long, so what I do is bring a space heater into my bathroom and warm up the bathroom so my dog isn't shivering while he is waiting in the bathtub. This shampoo has the double punch of both miconazole, an anti-fungal, and chlorhexidine, an extremely powerful antiseptic. My dog's skin and fur are in much better condition after using this shampoo a couple of times per week, and I can tell he physically feels much better because his skin condition has improved. It has also gotten rid of the yeast infection issues. I highly recommend this shampoo for anyone whose dog has skin and/or fur issues.
