Was excited when I saw "terra cotta feet" but then looked at the pic and saw they are plastic. Why?

Yep ... They're plastic so I guess the terra cotta in the description refers to the color. Side note though, they work well and even under real terra cotta pots/saucers, they blend in and don't look tacky.

Can these be used indoors? On hardwood floors?

I only used them outside and in a sunroom which has ceramic tile floors. I also had a terra cotta saucer in which I placed the pot toes and potted plant.

What are they made of - rubber? clay? plastic?

They are either plastic or a very, very hard rubber compound. Either way, they are effective for the purpose intended and they stay in place between the pottery I'm using and the stone flooring underneath.
