Stansport G.I. Style Plastic Canteen, Green

Excellent considering the price. If it were double the price, I would give it 4 stars. It is a very close reproduction to US issue. It was advertised accurately as “US GI style” but it fits the issue canteen cup & cover perfectly. It holds water without leaking. I got 3 and put them through extreme tests (including letting my 4 boys play with them) and none leak. I got them because these were cheap (at the time $2.31 USD) and my kids keep losing their water bottles at school and figured it they have these, it will be easy to identify as their own. I also have a nostalgia for this style because I used the issue canteens when I first got into outdoor activities. Some of the reviews stated it had a wider mouth but I find it very close to identical to the original in every dimension.In my photos I compare it to my issue canteen, the real canteen is on the right and the stansport is on the left. The color is a darker green and not so drab but could still be considered olive drab. It weighs 107 grams compared to my genuine army issue plastic 1990 canteen at 118 grams. The lettering “For water only…” is a slightly larger font than the original. The threads have a gap and don’t go all the way around. I have intentionally overtightened the cap until it “skipped” the threads and it still does not leak. There are dimples on the bottom sides but don’t feel weak when I press on them. The cap retention strap is slightly longer. I have removed and replaced the cap several times and it is as good as new. The plastic at the lip is thinner than original. Overall the plastic does not seem thinner or weaker when I press on it with my thumbs. Great canteen, I wish I got 10 instead of 3.

My son took two of these botles for a three days hiking trip. He said they were great. When he wanted to keep his water cool, he dipped the botles for a while in the river. These botles are made of very sturdy material, and the water never tasted like plastic or funny, just like water.

I bought this to replace a military canteen that i had lost during a recon exercise. i expected a thin plastic bottle shaped like a canteen but instead got a great military style canteen. the canteen has a slightly wider mouth than my other military issue as well as slimmer walls. it keeps what cold for at least three hours on a hot day. And that was my only problem with it due to the slimmer walls it doesn't keep the water cold as long as a military canteen aside from that i had no issues the wider mouth actually is preferred to me as it is easier to refill.I recommend this to anyone looking for a military style canteen that has no weird smell or taste, or doesn't have a army surplus store near them like myself.

The container its self is good. It didn't leak and it survived me kicking it around. The downside is the smell. It had a horrid chemical/plastic smell that would not go away even after letting it air for over a week. If you purchase this maybe try letting it soak in a vinegar and water solution for a day or two before using.

Works really well the few times I've got to use it, reminds me of my old Army issue ones. However I rarely get to use it as every time I take it on a hike or hunting trip my brother or buddy seems to drain it before I can get my hands on it. I'm thinking of gifting them both one to be honest.

Its a canteen but is super thin and cheap....but that is what you paid for it. So for the cost it's a 4 star....but for the overall purpose its a 3.

I have not used this item yet, but I bought it for my emergency go-bag in case of disaster. I always had one growing up and it works great. Nice size and curved to fit on your hip.

Looks like what I had while active and my son loves it.
