Does it stay in place when you use it or does it move forward when you start to reel the line onto the reel?

It pretty much stays in place unless you tighten the spool down real tight ... it’s a very nice product it’s very helpful. I spool up a lot of trolling reels and i would not want to be with out it ...

How big of spool can it hold? Will 1500 yards work

I have used it for a 1000 yard spool of 30 pound mono and it had plenty of depth left for an even bigger spool. It would depend of the thickness of your line.
