Silhouette of America SILH Rotary Blade, for Use with Cameo 4 Only

I couldn’t find this blade at my local craft stores so was thrilled to find it on Amazon. I use this blade to cut fabric and it works really well. Still trying to figure out the perfect pressure since it does leave an imprint of my cutouts on the mat, but not a huge deal since it doesn’t change the mats stickiness.

Easy to work with

I bought this to cut felt on my Silhouette and it works like a dream! Make sure to adjust your settings in the software though, the felt setting that is programmed in there is WAY too high according to silhouette customer support. Fortunately they were able to walk me through adjusting and now the blade works beautifully.

These are great for my silhouette cameo 5 machine.

I have Cricut Maker that also has rotary blade for cutting fabric. They both seem to be sharp and capable of cutting fabric well. But the way Silhouette chose to make it work is just mind bending. When it encounters a sharp corner, cricut lifts the blade, turns it to the correct angle, lowers it and cuts. Silhouette lifts the blade, moves the cutting head to a negative space and cuts an arch there in order to rotate the blade to the correct angle. Then it lifts the blade and travels to where it needs to cut. It is a really really weird way to cut, it leaves multiple little cuts in the negative (unused) parts of fabric. You can see those stray cuts when you set it up to send the cut to the machine. I do not know if there is a way to move or adjust those. I only see one reason for them to do it this convoluted way, and it is they could not go around cricut's patent on their rotating blade system, which is excellent, (unlike their abysmal software). I expect silhouette's other tools for the second carriage would work in the similar way. It will take some getting used to. I cut plain quilting cotton so far, and for more or less simple shapes it worked good. Imagine what would you be able to cut if you were holding a tiny rotary blade. You could do a lot, but super intricate shapes would be nearly impossible to cut properly without overcutting and such. Same thing with the rotary blade for silhouette. Unlike cricut that requires separate fabric mat with special adhesive, silhouette rotary blade works fine with standard mat.
