Ok, this is the review you should read before getting this pole
Ok, so here is the truth about this pole. The description sucks and the rest of the reviews are cloudy at best.Firstly, this is a fishing pole. Meaning a "pole". Imagine a stick that you'd use for fishing 300 years ago. A stick with a string on the end of it. The pole has 1 stainless steel attached ring at the very tip. The rod slips into the SS sleeve of the tip for about an inch so its a decent bond. The hole is about 1/16 inch wide so most lines will fit through there. Paracord won't.There are sliding sections that are held together by tension. The tension is from the diameter of the tube decreasing as the length continues. So the lock will be tight and hold. I haven't gotten it stuck and they haven't pulled apart yet. It will have to break for that to happen. If it were to break, sand down the mating sides and put ample super glue on it. The glue will bond very well to the rod. This rod looks like a graphite rod, but it is fiberglass. The base is just about an inch thick and the tip is about 1/16 inch thick. I will get my calipers and take actual measurements. The base doesn't just pop off. There is a plastic bit glued on to the base. Then there is a plug that is removable that pushes in, then there is a threaded cap that goes over it all and secures it to the rod. The cap is the object that keeps the rods from sliding out of the back. If you need a smaller rod, you can remove the last section.Putting about 5lbs on the tip of the rod will bend over the first 1.5 sections of the rod. A small fish won't break it, but if you're fishing for a Jack off a pier, you're probably going to break it off.I use this rod to have a wide range of movement for stuffed rabbits to run and ducks to fly in training my dogs. For that purpose it works great. If you were to use this rod for a similar purpose, make sure you get the medium sized stuff animals as the heavier ones move more lethargically and don't simulate a living animal. Also, make sure you scent up your stuffed animals so the dogs recognize their target.Base Diameter 1.031"Base material thickness .0365"Tip thickness .096"

A non-fisherman’s perspective
I purchased this to erect “field-expedient” amateur radio HF wire antennas. Although the 20’ maximum height is more or less of a compromise, depending on the operating frequency and how the antenna is strung, the low cost and extreme portability make it a great alternative to 10m kite poles and purpose-built antenna supports.I’m entirely unqualified to address this item’s suitability for its intended use as a panfish rod, but as telescoping fiberglass poles go, the fit and finish are excellent and it’s well worth the price.

Perfect Poke Pole, cheap end peice.
I just ordered a second one because I loved the first one I got. It’s perfect to fit between rocks and pull out whatever is inside. Super strong and I like the 16ft. However, my gf doesn’t like how long it is. So I ordered a 10’ pole for her :)Only 4 stars because the plastic end peice broke off while putting the pole away. That’s really the only cheap part about the whole pole. I really wish they would have made it rubber like the top end cap.Hopefully I can get a replacement end peice. Very disappointed with that because it’s what prevents all the peices from sliding out.

It's tough--I should have busted it a few times doing dumb things, but it took it
OMG This saved me SO much work on internet wiring projects. It's tough--I should have busted it a few times doing dumb things, but it took it. You just pull the sections into place and they hold. I twist and push to release the sections. It's meant to pull a line, and then you use the line to pull a wire, but I just taped cat-6 cable to it and it did the job. You can feed wire through narrow accesses by 'flicking' and pushing the pole. It flexes like a fishing pole and the flick will make the tip lift up as you push to get it past obstacles. Good luck!

GREAT APPLICATIONS BUT POOR PRODUCT QUALITY CONTROL
The poles are perfect for ham radio applications. Makes easy portable lightweight antennas for Field Day and even more long term projects...verticals, dipoles, 4 to make a 20 meter X Beam or MOXON. However, at least in my experience, the QUALITY CONTROL by the manufacturer left much to be improved upon. With the first pair I ordered all was well and I liked them so much I ordered a second pair. With the second pair both had issues...one looking like it was used, did not have the end caps included and in a non-sealed plastic packaging. The second one was in a sealed bag with the base actually broken/split. Amazon is unmatched with their super service and immediately replaced both poles and had UPS pick up the bad ones at my home. The replacements also had issues...the base of one not secured to the actual pole but not broken and the second one not exacting having a perfect fit between 2 of the sections when extended. Both of the second units were "workable" so I accepted them in their non-perfect but workable condition. The poles are great if you are lucky enough to get ones that are what they should be. Way less expensive and way more flexible in applications than Buddy Pole type of antennas. I highly recommend but be prepared for possible quality control issues.

Great for Ham radio antenna mast
I use it for ham antennas and have had the best results attaching my roll up j pole / slim jim to the tip using a key ring on the tip of the pole, and then a tiny carabiner attached to the jpole for quick connect/disconnect. I only extend it 16' and leave the last super thin section of the rod nested inside the previous. It's much more stable this way. My jpole also has a velcro cable keeper which I use to attach the base of the antenna where the feed line starts to the pole. Set up this way it has very little drag and is almost impervious to wind. Still playing around with mounts but if you have a patio table with an umbrella it works excellent if you pull out your umbrella, drop this into the base/table and you have a nice place to set your equipment (and a tasty beverage) in a comfortable chair.
