Super versatile, need to set up properly for best results
Initially I was disappointed with this shock, despite its super light weight and mid/late stroke performance I was having issues with it being harsh in initial stroke over small bumps and roots. I thought I needed to go to a high volume or Debonair can. Then I figured out two very important points of this shock:1. You MUST go through the Rock Shox procedure for setting sag to get proper performance in initial range. I was setting it like other air shocks, on the bike with pump connected. It's all about the positive and negative pressures equalizing. You have to start off the bike, cycle the shock a few times, connect the pump, pump to 100psi then remove pump (very important to remove pump), cycle shock 5x, get on bike, cycle shock a few more times while mounted, check sag, add pressure as needed, remove pump, cycle shock, check sag, cycle shock. You get it. Cycle shock and add/remove pressure until desired pressure is stable between cycling. I found my proper sag pressures were much lower than Rock Shox recommended, for example I weigh ~200lb w/gear and am at 25% sag @ 150 psi while RS said to go to body weight and then keep adding. Once you find your proper pressure it is easily repeated, but you HAVE TO remove pump and cycle the shock 4-5x, then check pressure until you find it is stabilized at your desired pressure.2. My remote lock came needing a bleed, which didn't even occur to me that it would. Very easy to bleed the remote on the bike without touching shock. If air is in your remote lock hydraulics you can get weird random partial locking behavior without any input to locking button. With a properly set sag and properly bled remote this is a great shock, with the benefit of you don't see anyone else with one. Awesome for trail, marathon and xc. Locks out super solid for sprints and paved connections. Side benefit of Rock Shox's incredible online manual and service resources. Very recommended.
