Q: How does the timer work?and for how long does it stay on for ?

They stay on for 8 hours. We didn’t set it up it just happens and frankly it’s a bit of a nuisance. It’s easily overcome though you just unplug them then plug back in and switch on and you get another 8 hours.

Q: What exactly is the memory function?

The unit will automatically remember your desirable setting. Therefore, you only need to set it once; at the very beginning and then just sit back and enjoy the lights when it comes on.

Q: Do these have a static mode so that they just stay on permanently without any flashing or fading?

Yes mine has, it is the warm white option though and has around 8 settings and one of them is static.

Q: I don't have a remote. Should there be one?

Hmm. There is a button for you to change modes. No remote
