This auger dug 6 one cubic foot in five minutes per hole. It got it done. Very good tool.
This auger dug 6 one cubic foot hole in 5 minutes per hole. It was in rocky backfill very tough going. I used the bit in a half inch drill. It started grabbing into the soil, rocks and chips of concrete went flying (use goggles) and I scooped out the hole. Done in 5 minutes. The bit took a beating in the rockiest dirt I have ever dug a hole in. Very tough, very good bit. The drill was an off brand drill. I bought this drill just for this job. Also a tough drill. These tools could probably dig 100 holes that are 1 cubic feet in regular soil not not extremely rocky soil.. There are also bits with extended shafts. There could be a problem with extended shafts with all the tork in tough rocky soil.

EASY TO USE IN THE GARDEN
FOR GARDENING, NO ONE WANTS TO BE BENT OVER THE WHOLE TIME WE ARE PUTTING PLANTS IN THE GROUND. HOOK THIS TO A HAND DRILL AND AWAY YOU GO. MAKES THOSE HOLES EASY AND LITTLE EFFORT. WE ADDED ADDITIONAL LENGTH TO THE ROD. THAT WAY NO ONE HAS TO BEND OVER VERY FAR. MUCH BETTER FOR BAD BACKS. AND A GOOD PRICE.

Great product but wish I also had the larger one
I've been using the 2"x7" auger for the last couple of days and it does a great job. However, I am finding that the width of the holes is really tight for getting daffodil bulbs planted and I expect the same for the tulips I'll be planting in two days. Plus the recommended depth for some of the bulbs I'm planting is six to eight inches. Since this auger is only seven inches, it makes it difficult to get to the required depth. Many of the bulbs I planted needed to be just four inches down and were pretty small bulbs so this auger was just right for those. But having the 3"x12" auger in addition to this one would be the way I'd want to go for those larger daffodil and tulips bulbs. Also, I would recommend using some 12" kitchen tongs with this auger. Drill the hole, then use the tongs to clean out the hole since dirt will invariably fall back in to the hole. You can also use the tongs to place the bulb upright in the hole since you are not likely going to be able to reach down to the bottom to manipulate the bulb with your fingers.

Beefy, well-made auger
Having retired to Roanoke, VA from Colorado, we live in a neighborhood on a large hill. In our backyard we have a steep bowl which is difficult to mow so we decided to replant several iris beds that would be destroyed when our pending patio is built. We have several hundred iris bulbs so digging replanting holes was not what I was looking forward to. Then I discovered Power Planter! What a game changer. This auger is very beefy and well built. It has a squared-off shaft so it won't spin in your drill if it gets into some tough dirt. And it handled the clay soil of Virginia like it was butter. I drilled the first 32 holes in a matter of minutes. I definitely recommend you watch the video on the Power Planter website about how to use this auger. And I have an additional handle on my drill that helped me stabilize while I was drilling the holes. All in all, this is a great tool that I'm sure I'll be using for years. Thank for making a lazy gardener into a happy planter.

Watch your wrists
In clean soil this auger is probably great. In rocky soil with interwoven errant roots, it will bind up and can really hurt your wrists if you're not careful. I go in small steps and low power and keep a shovel and axe for the roots handy because new England has more rocks than soil. It is definitely a time and back saver, and it has not dented or chipped when it hit rocks.

Good for small digging projects
We used this product with an 18 volt drill driver in a yard with super dense clay pack. Our Makita drill driver is not equipped with the right angle to steady the tool so it was a little difficult to control. The auger worked well for breaking up the soil, but I would not recommend using any auger larger than the 2" X 7" without a two handed power drill. The torque is substantial, especially in soil like ours. The auger itself is heavy duty and durable.

Bulb blaster !
We tried digging a few holes by hand but that was slow and WAY too much work in our hard Colorado clay soil. And with 35 bulbs to get in, I searched for a better tool and found this. What a life saver! I laughed happy at how easy almost every hole was. The 2" diameter and 7" depth was perfect in my Ryobi cordless drill. As others have pointed out, adjust the clutch somewhat loose as you WILL encounter roots and maybe rocks and this will keep the drill from jerking in your hands. Adjust your speed for the soil conditions. I kept a long spoon handy to dig out dirt that fell back into the hole. Then dropped the bulb in and covered with with a handful of good potting soil. Anyway this auger made this an easy job and it makes me want to plant twice as many bulbs next year just to use it again. Good tools are SO worth the money and this is one of those! You will be glad you bought it.
