If you care about keeping your trailer, don't buy the competition: Buy this one.
Serious construction for serious security.I posted a negative review about three years ago on the Reese version of this device, a yellow pot-metal scam that purports to offer trailer security. After experiencing three Reese hitches go bad within the space of 18 months (and two of their hitch-pin locks), I got onto Amazon looking for something better than my local big box store offered and purchased this device. According to my review of the Reese device, that was in July of 2014.I tow a trailer for a living, as does everyone else I work with. It houses my stock and my living quarters. If it were stolen I would be, to put it plainly, out of business. When my trailer was new in 2012, I purchased a Reese device because I'd heard of Reese. When the lock fell out of it within two months, I returned it for a replacement. When it cracked in half after bumping it with my truck, I again returned it for a replacement. When the third one began sticking, I began shopping on Amazon for a different brand.Three and a half years later, this device still locks my trailer securely. The keys still work. The piece is beat up and battered. It lays in the bed of my truck for weeks while my trailer is in tow. It sits pinned to my hitch for months when my trailer is idle. I bang into it hooking up and it survives intact. I live on the coast, so the hitch is exposed to salt air, to heavy dew, to road corrosion. I have never maintained this thing except for perhaps a squirt of WD-40. And it still does what I bought it to do, for nearly the same price as that yellow piece of junk with the name brand. Please, if you have something worth protecting, don't spend money on a scam brand. Buy this thing and don't look back.

Heavy Duty Tongue Lock
This is a very heavy duty tongue lock. It appears to be made well and hopefully is hard to tamper with! It fits tight up on the tongue and just looks secure. I have had some locks that were smaller and cheap looking - this one isn't that way. The lock is easy to work with and lock/unlock. I would definitely purchase these again.

Big, bold, solid and sturdy - 1st line of defense.
I have a big camper and I couldn't find anything big enough to fit over a standard bumper pull camper. My camper is 26-28 feet long with a big trailer hitch as it normally should be. The little yellow universal trailer hitched locks that you can pick up at wally world will not fit over the ball/hitch receiver. So, I looked about the small little mining town of Elko Nevada and not to my surprise couldn't find any. I figured I might find one or two at three times the cost, but nothing. This trimax UMAX50 works like a champ. It fits and it noticeable. Again it is NOTICABLE and present. Yes, I am sure that it could be broken off with a wedge bar, a torch and hammer or maybe a big sledge attaché to a big criminal, BUT seriously it is a small inexpensive deterrent. It is sturdy and it look sturdy. I worry about someone taking my camper when I park it or tow it and even leave it my yard. I just hope that the criminal mind is slightly swayed in looking for another camper to steal - you never know, but stealing is a crime and sometimes people commit crimes. It looks bold, it feels bold and it is the first LINE of defense!

Secure and strong
Have had trailers professionally for more than 35 years and have only used this type of tongue lock. Recommend.

This device is VERY secure.
This device is VERY secure. I have had it now for nearly a year. Our area is very humid, which reeks havoc on metal with rust. This device is showing signs of rust, but still functions as designed. I think most of the rust is coming from the hitch itself.A tip for those who may be struggling with the lock - The steel ring has gear like cogs, which must connect inside the slides. If the cogs are not lined up, you will find it difficult to lock. Just wiggle the ring up or down in the slide to get it to link, as you turn the key.----------------------------------Update:Bad news and good news. The bad is, after 1 yr and 4 mos, the key hole corroded and failed to unlock. The key got stuck, I forced it, and broke the circular key in the lock. The good is, I could not cut it off with my Dewalt sawsall and metal cutting blade. I had to roll my air compressor out to the trailer, and cut it with my grinder wheel attachment. It took about 45 minutes of a loud compressor, sparks, and loud pounding with a sledge to get it to break off. That being said, I ordered another one.

Effective, solid, easy to assemble
I liked this product from the moment I opened it. Ball is small enough to fit likely any hitch. Two pieces and a key to open it. Took it right out of the box and put it on my trailer. Very happy with this Trimax device.

It works almost too well
I bought this one because I another brand that I lost my key to and two good walks with a hammer broke it. With this one I once again took a hammer to it when I forgot the key. After 20 minutes I gave up. Nothing but going home to get the key would open this. That makes me feel really good about this product

Sturdy Trailer Lock,,
I have another lock like this I bought a few years back, I like the rubber plug, Keeps the weather out. Fits well on a 2-5/16 trailer hitch. Easy on and off. Seems pretty sturdy. My other one is about 10 years old and has weathered well. Happy with the purchase

Better than the yellow ones!
This lock appears to be of very good quality. It's heavy and seems well made. Although I'm sure a motivated thief could get through any lock eventually, this one seems to be a bit more robust (especially compared to the yellow painted locks that are available at all big box stores...you know the ones I mean).I was initially concerned when I opened my order of two locks and found that they were keyed alike. This made me suspicious that they may ALL me keyed alike. I called Umax directly and had a helpful gentleman answer my call on the first ring. He assured me that Umax has many key codes but the products are shipped from the factory in crates of 6 (which are all keyed alike). I was fortunate enough to get 2 from the same crate which means I now only have to carry one key (and I have 3 spares)!
