Marvel's Universe Shaking Whodunit!
One of the best Marvel events to come out since Infinity. This is a great whodunit mystery superhero style.Jason Aaron's writing is superb and also offers some small comedy here and there to break up the incredible serious tone this book brings. I loved Mike Deodato's art style since his Dark Avengers run, it's always a treat for the eyes.Original Sin is a universe changing event that doesn't throw that in your face and focuses on being a great cosmic murder mystery. The tie-ins attached in this book are hits and misses. The art with the Young Avengers tie-in put me off from the get go. Other than that some are worth reading while others are just lighthearted fun.If you're a Marvel fan I would pick this up, double if you like whodunits.

Great story. Lots of unrelated filler comics at the end.
The main story is great. The art is great. There are about 5 filler comics at the end that are tangentially related where the story and art aren't great.

Aaron's best Marvel work in years, this murder mystery will have you guessing right up until the end!
Title: Original Sin (HC)Publisher: MarvelWriter: Jason Aaron (with help from various others)Artists: Mike Deodato & various (pencils), Mike Deodato & various (inks), Frank Martin & various (colors), Julian Totino Tedesco, Adam Kubert & Morry Hollowell, Jim Cheung & Justin Ponsor, Mark Brooks (covers)Collects: Marvel Point 1 #1, Original Sin #0-8, Original Sin: Secret Avengers Infinite #1-2, Original Sins #1-5Price: $75.00This is a book that is full of surprises. It IS a murder mystery story, so it should have a few surprises, right? It isn’t just the murderer that is the big surprise, here, though. I was also surprised by the choice of central heroes Aaron chose to use in this book. I was surprised by his choice of central villains to use in this book. I was surprised by the revelations disclosed by some of the characters by the end of the book. I was surprised by the fate of The Watcher and the domino effect resulting from his murder. I was surprised by the fate of a few other significant characters of the Marvel universe. I was surprised by the weird collection of other short stories that are tie-ins to the central story. I was surprised by the graphic design of the covers that were used for the mini-series - featuring weird and outdated artwork that prevented me from ever buying it or even flipping through it when it was on the shelves. I was surprised by the ridiculously high cover price of this comprehensive collection. So many surprises for me in this book!Did I like it? Yes. Overall, I was happy with the story. I sometimes really, really like Jason Aaron’s work, and other times I just loathe it. I was very skeptical of this mini-series, but since I was able to pick it up at 50% off the cover price as a pre-order, I decided to pull the trigger and pick it up. Thanks amazon! As I was saying, though, Aaron weaves a pretty good story, here, and shines the spotlight on some characters and villains that aren’t always in it. The villains he uses in the story are particularly obscure, and I generally like stories that thrust these characters into the limelight, however brief their moments of glory might be.I avoided this book, altogether, when it was on the shelves. I had very little interest in taking a gamble on Aaron’s mini-series, as I had recently come off a string of some incredibly bad Wolverine books that were written by him. Also, as I have already mentioned, the cover art used on these comics was the worst I have ever seen in a Marvel mini-series. I’m not sure what they were really shooting for in these covers. The artwork looks a bit old-fashioned and is completely different from the artwork on the interior. It is stylistic, to be sure, but not a style that appealed to me. Likewise, the logo used for the series title was just plain ugly. Thankfully, the interior artwork was much, much better, and I will get into that, next.Mike Deodato provides the pencils and inks for the main issues of the series, and he really knocks it out of the park. He’s been killing it at Marvel for over a decade, now, and this is him at his peak quality. His work is generally darker than most other Marvel artists, which suits the tone of the book just perfectly. He draws the exotic heroes, villains and locales with assurance and style, and it all looked gorgeous. The satellite/tie-in issues that were included in this collection were a bit strange, though (apart from the Young Avengers issues) not necessarily unenjoyable. There really seemed to be little cohesion to them. Each story and writer seemed to be pretty much doing their own thing, which really makes me wonder what sort of direction (if any) they were given for these issues. Apart from the Dr. Doom storyline, most of them were pretty forgettable, and nowhere near as good as the central story. Throwing them in the pot was OK, but does nothing to justify the unmanageable price of this book.Of all the things I dislike about the book, the steep cover price is chief among them. For $75, you had better be offering a pretty stinking fabulous product, and this ain’t it. This book is pretty good, but it isn’t fabulous. Sure, it contains a whole lot of issues, but a lot of those issues were average, at best, and poor at worst. Also, Marvel has a bad case of the shrinking page count, as of late. A 17-issue collection from ten years ago would have had about 70 more pages in it than this book. Yes, this is still a thick book to pick up, and not one you are going to read in a single sitting, but just looking at it from the side you would never guess that it contains 17 issues. It looks far too thin for that to be true. The casualties of a down economy? Maybe. But why are DC books with similar issue counts so much thicker, then? Because I was able to pick this book up at half price, I can be a bit more contented with my purchase. Had I paid full price for this I probably would have been pretty upset and would have scored it lower. The price I paid for it seems far more reasonable and accurate for what you get in this book. Hopefully a softcover TPB with the original 9-issue mini-series will be available, at some point, for those who just want a copy to read with the fat and the price trimmed down to a reasonable level.I can recommend this book to most any Marvel fans, because they would enjoy reading the story. However, unless you can get a deal similar to what I got, I would have to steer readers to the library instead of the store for this one.Writing: 9/10Artwork: 8/10Cool Factor: 8/10Value: 5/10Overall: 7.25/10

Outstanding!!!
This is simply one of the Best Most Gruesome and Brutal Marvel series that I have ever read. It’s amazing from start to finish. Absolutely Loved every moment of it.

Turns the established MU continuity on its head...but in a good way.
Wow! I really really hate it when creators try and change established continuity with a cheesy "you didn't know it fact" that changes everything, like the Gwen Stacy-Norman Osborne love affair thing that J. Michael Straczynski over in Spider-Man. Don't get me wrong...I think he's a great writer and it was a great story, but not for Spider-Man. I mean, this could've easily been an old story he had rattling around in his head and then dusted it off and threw Peter Parker into it. It was just sloppy and awkward.But...Jason Aaron truly changed the Marvel Universe in a plausible and yet enjoyable way! I won't go into spoilers, but it's been a VERY long time since I've been this impressed by. Think...MIB meets This Is Your life TV show. It started a bit forced, and there were a few things which could've been unveiled a little differently, but I'm definitely NOT complaining. If you are a Marvel fan, this is required reading.

A Fine Event, but Disappointing
Original Sin was an event I wasn't sure if I'd like. I never read it when it was coming out in single issues, and I remember hearing mixed reviews about it. After getting into it I decided it was okay. The art is gorgeous, as it should be when Deodato is involved, and the mystery was quite gripping at times. As someone who isn't a Marvel universe aficionado, I found this story to be very accessible and an entry point into the larger Marvel universe. Unfortunately, when I got to the end of Original Sin the whole event felt like a cleaning house at Marvel by introducing interesting storylines to other books (Spider-man's introduction to Silk was interesting, but Nova had the best tie-ins) and getting rid of white Nick Fury. Overall it's a fine event, but not one I'll be going back to again and again.

Not the Good Book, but still a good book
This book is not about the Biblical Garden of Eden, nor Adam, nor Eve nor their fornicating amongst the serpent’s apples, or whatever the hell happens in the book of Genesis. But it is beautifully drawn, intriguing, and a fascinating mystery. I’ve been doing a great deal of acid lately. Enjoyed this book.

Definetly worth a read
Great read and really worth the money for how big the book is! The artwork is just lovely as well! There are a few extra stories in the back that are related to the main story line which was a nice bonus.
